Actually lives up to the 25lb rating, greatly improved the design of most other products on the market, works w/ revolvers
I have literally tried about 15 different "magnet" type of mounting options. First, I would say most overly extend their actual holding force. Next I would say most aren't very flexible how they contact the firearm. For example the longer flat ones are not complete magnets they are just a couple little bar magnets glued on plastic with a cheap plastic covering. Unless the firearm can lay flat across the whole surface they don't hold very well. They also have a tendency to fall apart over time as the cheap glue on the magnets starts to give out and the cover doesn't stay on so well. Others take a doughnut magnets and put a cheap plastic cover over them. Again glue breaks down and covers come off. Both styles are also thin. Depending how you are mounting, it makes it difficult to get a good quick grip to pull the gun off. None of them are really good with revolvers due to the cylinder sticking out past the frame. I.e limited flat surface for mounting. Depending on the grip panels or safety / mag release buttons and levers on a semi auto gun still may not lay flat enough to get a good mount on the magnet. What is really nice about this one is how it addresses most of the issues. First thing they did is place 2 very strong cylinder magnets next to each other. This maximizes the holding force to a much smaller area. This means a much stronger connection to the gun and the smaller area greatly increases the flexibility to fit some place on the gun. Next they molded a 1 piece body. This removes the issue of having a cheap cover that comes off and breaks over time. Finally they made it so the magnets enter the body from behind. This means that even if the glue breaks down over time the magnets are captured between the body and the mounting surface. No risk of pulling the gun off and the magnets and cover come with it. Depending how you mount this could actually mean you still have to pull magnets and covers off your gun before it works. Not a good risk to take if you assume this could happen in a defensive situation. You also do not have the risk the glue gives way and the firearm falls off the mount. Finally they do provide a little stand off but still provide a low profile. This allows you the ability to make the most contact with the magnetic surface but still lay flat where revolver cylinders, safety levers, mag release buttons are not an issue. It also gives you just enough stand off that my sausage fingers can fit around the grip to pull it out in a ready state. I do not have to still adjust my grip after pulling it out.The one thing I did change is the mounting surface that makes contact with the firearm. It comes in with a harder plastic surface. It probably would not cause wear to the finish, but I am one of those anal retetive people that cleans after every use and do not want extra wear marks / finish damage. I took a few clean patches / wash cloth material and lightly glued it on the mating surface. First this helps protect the finish when taking the gun on and off because I'm "that guy". The second thing it does is actually make retrieval easier and smoother. The sliding friction is reduced when pulling off but the magnet force to hold the firearm on the mount is still rock solid. Just don't get crazy and try to put an in inch worth of material on.Overall I am extremely pleased with build quality, simplicity, ease of use, flexibility to attach, and strength of magnetic force. I have already purchased again and will again in the future!

As utilitarian as a hidden gun can be. I love these things!
I may have already reviewed this little magnet, but I've bought many of these same ones. These little things are amazing! Truly transforms gun (and magazines or anything else steel) storage into simple, fast, effective and sometimes nearly invisible means of preparedness. I use one in our closet mounted on the inside overhead wall to snap my EDC gun when I'm not wearing it. Mounting here lets me have quick access to the weapon while being fully hidden, and far out of the reach of my 3 year old. This magnet is so strong, it's cracking the corner bead and paint from attracting the slide into the wall! So not only do I not care about how this wall looks inside a closet and over your head, I know my evil genius kid can't remove a weapon even if he found it (which is really only stored there during the night or while I'm showering) even though he knows we have many guns in the house and in the safe. For me, the safety of a well placed magnet is 3 fold. I also use one hidden behind a shelf at the front and rear doors of my house, and one under the dash of my car. I'm going to build a false bottom shelf that will accept two magnet mounts to accommodate a hidden shotgun. We had an accidental break in during the day on day 1 at our new house that scared us into being more prepared for unexpected situations. These mounts also make confined safe storage a thing of the past. I truly love these magnets, and I have seen a bunch of different styles, my friends use others. I've never had a mar or scratch on any weapon from the plastic, even cerokoted slides. The only thing I would like to see change is aluminum inserts with countersunk holes for flush wood screws, and a discounted multi pack. I would recommend a six pack in a heartbeat. 1- bedroom, 2- front door, 3- car, 4- kitchen counter under cabinets, 5- office desk, 6- flashlight mounted. It's proven that a good flashlight is a more effective deterrent of home invasion. I really find these things hugely functional and utilitarian. As always, remember to practice safe handling, and be smart about your weapons. There is enough bad guys out there, we don't need any accidents in the law abiding and responsible gun owners community. Also, the use of a safety is encouraged as this magnet is strong enough that you have to tug it pretty hard to release. Like as in about 5 - 9 lbs of pull. Think about it. Be smart, be safe.
