It's Just a Box
There seems to be a very limited choice of storage solutions for vinyl records.I wanted a box rather than a crate and the most common is the Gorrilla flight case style. The carbon coloured outer cladding looks very smart. The metal edges look very good and the slightly padded interior gives that little bit of extra protection.I have put about 70 albums in the box - some are double albums, and others have gatefold covers and therefore take up more space. The box is full and weighs a ton.At the end of the day though, it is just a wooden box with a fancy finish. A very expensive box. They do however all appear to be around this price point - doubtless reflecting the premium price of vinyl.

A modestly designed, modestly priced case perfectly suitable for home storage
First thoughts upon receiving: pleasant looking carbon effect on an OK thickness board, the hinges are slightly small but seem OK. I don't think they would withstand prolonged usage with more than 40 records -- they do not seem to be sufficiently reinforced for regular travel or gigging, though they should be fine for storage and occasional transport. That's what I bought mine for.(If you can carry a full 80-vinyl case further than between your front door and your car, you're already doing better than most DJs.)The hinges are nothing special, but they're functional. Usual method of opening the lid and lifting off to separate them. I'll have to load test them with a full crate before committing to a final opinion, I wonder about where they connect to the back of the case. The interior is completely covered in a moderate thickness layer of foam padding. Gorilla also throw in a few sachets of silica gel beads and a warranty card. The feet are solid rubber feet and a decent height, meaning you can stack multiple cases without the lid handle scraping against the case above.I'm not sure how much weight the lids could take, they don't feel as sturdy or reinforced as my other record cases. Try to avoid stacking several of these cases when full, as I think the lids might begin to bow from the weight. My main concern is that the feet are too inset towards the centre of the lid, instead of being further towards the edges of the base. I think that would help to spread the load more evenly down and through the sides of the case, but it would probably make manufacture more expensive. The locks are cheap. Very cheap. Basically, you'd only want to use them to make sure the catches don't open by accident, the key design is generic and you could turn the mechanism with a flat head screwdriver. That said, I've previously paid upwards of £60-70 for equivalent lockable flight cases with heavier duty metal locks. These Gorilla cases are less than half the price of most of my record cases - which are all sat on my floor. Given this, I'm not too concerned. It seems all Gorilla cases with these locks have a single key design. It looks like a blank key, it's just a wedge to turn the lock mechanism. As deterrent to an idle thief they would work -- but remember, they all have convenient handles on top... Think of them as catch securing mechanisms for transport.I found that to engage the lock, you must turn the key anti-clockwise with more force than you would expect. It'll feel like it can't go any further, and that you're about to bend or break the key. However, apply gentle and continuous pressure and you will feel it rotate further, with a lot more resistance. To unlock, you turn clockwise all the way around and then a little more.I'll fill these with records soon and update my review. At the moment, as long as you don't expect the moon for £27, they're looking like a bargain case for home storage.

#1 choice for LP storage!
A great way to store LP’s when you have so many that your other places are fully used. Have like 500 LP’s within easy reach in my listening room. Surplus records which in my case is a continously growing problem stacked in all areas of my apartment now can be safely stored and organised in the Gorilla cases. Easy to stack upon each other. Seems extremly robust. Very big and solid rubber feet makes stacking easy. I put a small white label to each to inform about the content.Have now bought in total 6 cases, 1 in silver and 5 carbon. All in great finish but I like the look of carbon best.

EXCELLENT CASE
I chose this LP case in carbon black. It looks really smart and seems to be well made. Has a sturdy handle. The lid is half hinged so can be removed fully if needed. I can say is the locks are a little stiff when I turn the key but I suspect this is because they are new. I felt no need to deduct a star for this minor aspect. I also really like gorilla cases emblem which is rivetted on and is not some kind of cheap sticker that could peel off at a later date.It came well packaged and even has a UK support number - not sure of the support you might need with this! Inside were two small sachets of silica gel. I kept them in there to keep any moisure at bay from my LPs! This case could be used to store anything - not just LPs.I like it so much I am considering buying the other two colours!
