Air conditioning and refrigeration repair made easy: Complete easy to understand air conditioning and refrigeration diagnostic charts and hands on repair instructions

As an engineer who knows not a lot about refrigeration I thought I would buy a book to enlighten me. As a practical guide it certainly does just that with lots of detailed electrical, mechanical and cooling system information about most types of appliance. The author certainly has a lot of experience which he puts on paper in a very readable manner.On the other hand I don't agree with the author who implies that this book would enable someone who knew nothing of mechanical or electrical engineering in general to tackle a fridge or air-con system for the first time. He assumes a level of knowledge when describing procedures and even with my particular background I still have gaps in my understanding of what I would need to do to repair an appliance. Although much better informed after reading this book I would still be very careful about tackling a faulty unit.Further it is an American book with American terms for parts and the internet sources for technical details of equipment relate to US kit.

Well presented and informative on the relevant subject.

First off, this is not an introductory book on how Air Conditioning works with pretty colored diagrams with lots of color coded arrows and explanations a child could follow. If you want to learn how AC works, go buy one of the pretty introductory AC books, this book is for the grown ups. This book is a self-published book by an Air Conditioning repair man who knows his stuff. Written for those who already have a general understanding of the field, the author gives the ins and outs of how to fix everything from small refrigerators up to large commercial systems. The author is not a professional writer and the book could be better organized, but this is the book to buy if you want to learn not how AC works, but how to fix it. Lots of detail and tells you exactly how to do things. At a price of only twenty three dollars, this book is a real bargain and has far more of the real practical helpful information than AC books that cost over a hundred dollars. Most books are written by a writer who researches the subject, which means all of his information is second hand and he couldn't fix an AC unit if his life depended on it. Where as this book is written by a guy who was a AC repairman first, and a writer second. You could study one of the professional writers books for years and never learn the tricks of the trade of how things are really done in the field that are in this book. The book is a gold mine of first hand experience on how to fix AC units, a book you probably will want to keep in your service truck. I have read a few AC books over the years, and none of them had the real stuff that you need to know like this book does. The professional AC books all come off as if they were written by the manufactures' sales rep and are just about as useful when things break. When the chips are down, you want an author who has been there and knows what he is talking about.

Great book great introduction to refrigeration and ice machine and air conditioning.

As an HVAC mechanic myself, i have my own library of Tech Books. Some might look better, or be more updated, but this is right up on the top in my books. The author did an amazing job in explaining the material, it also made the harder-to-understand books easier because it developed a strong foundation in my understanding of the mechanics. It goes into an easy explanation in how to use a meter for certain tasks, which most (if not all) books ever do (checking compressors, defrost timers, relays, etc.) I used this book to fix and install, i literally took out from the pages things that helped me continue my career successfully.This is a book on HOW to do it more than any other. I owned the pdf for so many years i decided to buy the actual physical book so i can stick in my shelf. Whenever I get any apprentice, i will tell them about this book so they can start.The downsides are that they are drawn pictures, not actual images. Though the drawings are good enough to understand, but novices might need actual images. And yes, it is outdated like most books- but most of it you will find in the field regardless if its a new system, and dont kid yourself- not many of you will be working on high end commerical systems- and if you are you should know by now that you need a heavy commerical book.Also a good chapter on a full in-depth preventative maintenance could have benefited the novice (this is a large part of you workday) and for the customer (who can save hundreds in repair costs that could have been prevented) - but i have never found a book that covers general HVAC with a deep section on PMs.

Pretty comprehensive. Well written, in an easily understood style. Very Pleased.

Read this if you want to learn hvac at a fraction of the cost. A lot better than the other homeowner oriented books that teach nothing.
