The Rockford Files: Movie Collection - Volume 2 [Region 1]

Quality drama with humour on the side. As a fan of Rockford for 40 yrs I was cautious before I 'dipped my toe' into buying these movies as I'd not seen them on TV. I needn't have worried. Very enjoyable, I only wish there were more & the support characters are just as good as ever. John Amos, (Roots etc.) makes an excellent scoundrel. Still probably best to start with the early ones though.

My wife and I are big Rockford fans and this DVD completes our collection. First a couple of points - this DVD is the German edition. While you can see this from the pictures, I don't think the implications of this were made clear in the description. As you would expect you can switch the audio language to English. However there are no subtitles of any sort. The on screen titles are all in German, as are the embedded-in-the-video subtitles in one scene where the bad guys are speaking Russian. This sufficiently impacted my enjoyment that we've returned the DVD and ordered the Region 1 American edition instead.Most of these movies are up to the usual high Rockford standards. I was disappointed with the final movie "If it Bleeds it Leads". The movie was a monumental downer, on a par with the darkest episodes of the original series (e.g. the episode that features the outlaw motorcycle club gang-rape). While this would have been tolerable if it fell in the middle of the reunion movies, for that to be how Rockford ended was very disappointing. I was hoping for one where we saw the charm and quiet humor we all came to know and love.Alas James Garner is gone, and it is what it is. My collection is complete, and I'm sure I'll watch most of these films again. But the final movie will not be getting a repeat viewing from me.

Clearly after watching these T.V. movies that Rockford has had his day. Interesting to see the characters years later but something is lacking . Maybe its nostalgia?
