Tantric Yoga and the Wisdom Goddesses (Spiritual Secrets of Ayurveda)

One of the Best Books on Tantra
This is a really excellent book blowing away all the faux Tantra ideas about sex, and it is a great book on the nuts and bolts of Tantra. The Yantra pictures and the pictures of the Goddesses were in black and white, but really a yantra should be carved on metals such as copper, gold, or silver.I think some of the individuals here were disappointed because they wanted information on the sorcery that is part of Tantra. Frawley mentions this briefly, but focuses mainly on Tantra as a means of reaching enlightenment or Moksha which is what he should do. If these individuals want sorcery they need to learn Sanskrit and read the scriptures themselves and get a teacher in the black arts.Overall Frawley is a follower of Sri Vidya, and he did a fine job of explaining Tantra as a means to reach Moksha. I highly recommend this book.

Such a delightful description of the Goddess in so many aspects.
Such a delightful description of the Goddess in so many aspects. It is pretty rare to read such high and lofty spiritual truths is so pure and comprehensive way. Helped me a lot in meditation on Kali-ma, envisioning her and living in her presence more clearly. Many of my past experiences I have understood much better.

Excellent overview of Hindu Tantra
David Frawley has done a fine exposition of Hindu Tantra. He not only knows the subject well, but he also can convey it in a readable and lucid manner. He clears away many of the misconceptions that have risen around Tantra since the New Age movement has appropriated it. Its not about "sex" as many purveyors would want you to believe. Most westerners think that the 'Left hand Tantra' is all there is. Wrong. It is a authentic and very real path of spritual realization that is very comprehensive in its practice. After Frawley dispels the misconceptions he proceeds to define aspects of Tantra and the various paths within it. Then the bulk of the book deals with the Ten Mahavidyas or wisdom goddesses. Now some of them are really hideous or nightmarish visually. Be forwarned!5 of the goddesses comprise each an aspect of the divine as I understand it. The other 5 deal with personal transformation. He gives instructions on how to worship each one, along with mantras and yantras, with visualizations of each goddess.Later chapters deal with the chakras, pranas, tejas and ojas.Overall a fine introduction to Tantra.I have only a few quips.1) It is not a instruction manual per se. Yes he lists the various mantras - however its nearly impossible to learn a mantra from a book. A audio CD would be a fine complement for the next edition. Get Harish 'Tools for Tantra' for the practice methods.2) The Yantras and drawings of the goddess should be done in color. If you're interested in knowing more about real Tantra get this book. You won't be disapointed.

love the book
If you have an interest in yoga and Tantra, I can recommend this book. Still reading, and given the depth of the material, I will be for a while, but Dr Frawley has done an awesome job of presenting what could be very daunting subject matter. Highly recommended.

Perfect resource for a sincere Sadhaka.
Book was delivered at around 5 pm and I had read almost all of it by the midnight, kept it down only for having dinner. This book uncovers all that is misunderstood about tantra, specifically in the West. DasaMahavidya yantras, beautiful descriptions with their proper meditation forms (as mentioned in traditional scriptures), mantras, all of it is provided in this book which helps the sadhaka by a great extent to choose the sadhana best suitable for him. Apart from that, as I was already introduced to it, what excited me was the Prana, Ojas & Tejas chapters covered under Ayurveda sections. For that wisdom, I owe it to the enlightened author for giving me deeksha.Overall this is a very vivid, authentic, traditional and sacred wisdom, if you are a beginner and are confused with your primary sadhana, definitely give this a read.Jai Maa Kaali.

I really enjoyed it as it's my research subject
I heard about this book via Uma Tillsmore Tulle in her book Yoni Shakti. I really enjoyed it as it's my research subject. I need to read it again to fully integrate its teachings.
