Q: Does it use 1/4 shank size bits?

I have not used it as of yet I have a cast on and it is to hard for me to work with but my husband used it just to see how it does work and the 1/4 shank bit does work

Q: Is foot pedal required to operate?

I can't see why you would not want to use the foot pedal because it gives you much more control - I suppose it would operate at without it, I have used a flexible shaft machine like this for 40 years or more and the ease of operation with the foot pedal is essential to the ability to control the work you do. This unit is great for the price.

Q: how long is the flex shaft

Overall length of shaft is 42”. Flex portion of shaft is about 31”.
