Without A Clue [DVD]

Brilliantly acted and the story and absolute hoot!! Loved it.

This review is for the "Silver Collection" DVD. Annoying good ratio but within the 4.3 box, and as My wife and I need/prefer subtitles we couldn't enlarge the screen because you often lose some of the lower subs. So, good but small picture, sound and subs. The film is just great fun, with Caine and Kingsley showing their comedy acting chops, Caine in particular - very funny. The premise is good - Watson the detective genius, Holmes a fictional "Physical" detective for the world to see. Sadly, I felt the film screamed out for good British character actors in support. Jeffrey Jones doesn't work as Lestrade, and dear Nigel Davenport looked ill and went way OTT. I longed for a Ronnie Fraser/Lionel Jeffries/Cecil Parker /Michael Ripper/ Duncan Lamont type. But, the film still entertains which is all you can really ask of any film. A good laugh. Recomended.

I remember seeing this movie the first time it came out a d I've been looking for it ever since. Glad to say it did not disappointing. Very funny comedy film.

This film isn't for those Holmes fans who prefer the character as he is portrayed in the books, for this Holmes is an out of work, drunken actor merely hired to play the part of Sherlock Holmes - a fictional character created by a genius Dr. Watson. Unfortunately for Watson, when he tires of his popular creation and attempts to become known in his own right as "John Watson...the crime doctor!", no one takes him seriously, and he's forced to re-hire the fake Holmes in order to investigate a dastardly plot against the British Empire.Michael Caine plays Holmes - or rather, Michael Caine plays Reginald Kincaid who plays Holmes, and he does it brilliantly. It's hilarious to see Holmes in action only for the mask to fall away and for Kincaid's bumbling character to be revealed as soon as only Watson is there to see it. Ben Kingsley is wonderful as poor put upon Watson, who's determined (no matter how difficult it is) to deal with Kincaid for one last case in order to protect Britain. If you like comedies, this under-rated gem should keep you entertained.

This has long been a favourite film of mine (this is a replacement for the copy that didn't get returned, never getting loaned again), the basic premise of the relationship between Holmes and Watson (I can say no more than that as it gives away the surprise) was a stroke of genius on the part of the writer. This film should be better known and I can't understand why it isn't, Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley are superb as are the rest of the cast and the humour is excellent. Without A Clue is a film I would (and indeed do) recommend to anyone, it's funny, well timed and whilst the story line is nothing earth shattering (except possibly to Holmes purists) it's good enough in my opinion to pass muster. My only disappointment? They have never made a sequal (anyone from production who happens to read this take note). If you buy a copy after reading this, enjoy

As a ardent Sherlock Holmes fan I found this extremly funny and lighthearted as a spoof i found that they were not taking the mickey but making it fun,sort of turning the tables if you will, instead of watson being the one in the dark and being a bit of a duffer it is holmes being the idiot (perfecly acted by Micheal Caine who we don,t often see in a comic role). it is perfect for a sunday afternoon or indeed anytime come to that. i first came across it by accident the first time i saw it and have just fell in love with it ever since and I feel so will you when you see it, it's a gem of a movie to add to any collection I don't feel it has got the praise it deseves.

Absolutely brilliant film highly enjoyable if you after a comedy sherlock Holmes this is the film for you. I love sherlock Holmes from basil rathbourne brilliant up to the present day. Wish it was on blu ray a master piece of comedy and acting on their characters is brilliant. Definitely up their with young frankenstein but so overlooked watch and enjoy.
