excellent product.
just what i was looking for. with the batteries in the sharpener has just the right weight to keep it still whilst sharpening the pencil.held in for a couple of seconds - no more - and the slight downwards pressure needed results in a superbly sharpened pencil every time.it looks stylish and the compartment for holding the shavings is large enough to sit unemptied for a long time!very pleased with this.my only comment is that there is not an option to preselect your preferred colour. there are several colours but it is not possible to choose - just get whatever they happen to pick off the shelf. mine is a green one which is fine.. but a choice would have got this a 5 star rating..

Dissapointed
At first glance this looks and feels like a nice little unit. It comes with a safety switch to stop little fingers entering the larger hole, which is a nice touch. But frankly what this item lacks most is some thought as to how it will be used and by who. For instance, my 4 year old son can't use this because his fingers are not strong enough to hold the pencil still when sharpening. When he tries to apply more pressure he tends to push the pencil in harder. This then stalls the motor. This unit is underpowered. The shaving tray does NOT have a catch or clip firmly into place when fitted to the sharpener. We now have a rubber band around it to hold the tray in place. The tray itself is a let-down because there is only the smallest of ridges on the inside which means you have to empty it over a bin or clean up a lot of mess. It doesn't feel great when sharpening and I can tell that as soon as the blade becomes a little blunt it won't have the guts to sharpen the pencils. All in all rather disappointed and would not recommend.

GREAT ITEM
We have bought this for our 8 year old granddaughter as she has wanted one for ages, my only worry is that the large hole is big enough to get a finger in it, but it's ok because there is a safety button on the top, the large hole only opens up when button is pulled back, when in use both sharpeners spin but again something covers the large hole from inside and if you take the clear cover from off of the front the whole thing will not work, so it should be fine for children, they sent us a nice blue one, takes 4 batteries and is quite heavy when batteries are in,they are really good, i would have loved one of these when i was a child, bought her a load of pencils because i can see her getting hooked on sharpening, hope this is of some help.................... five years later and this is still working. I have just bought a second one for my other granddaughter she says its amazing. everyone now has very sharp pencils her dad told us.

I really like this. We received orange which is my son's favourite colour so we were pleased. It sharpens pencils quickly and easily - and yes we did hunt the house for every pencil we could find. After doing about one hundred pencils I have noticed that the blade is not as sharp but replacements are cheap. Haven't tried to replace it yet but had a look and it seems straightforward. Would highly recommend. I will not go back to manual sharpeners again. I bought this for home but am a teacher and will get one for the classroom.

stopped working after a few months
The sharpener was ok, not great (used at home, not in a busy office or school, so massively underused). However it stopped working after 3-4 months of non intensive use (in other words, weeks of no use, then a pencil or two and so on). I thought it was the batteries, but alas, no.Cannot comment on the big compartment as I never used it with a larger pencil.Shame to have to throw it (landfill problem) and spend more money on a new one. Double loss.

Very handy
Bought to sharpen my children's school pencils. Works with batteries (or an ac power cord, not included). The motor seems quite strong and you do have to hold the pencil tightly to stop it turning (this isn't a criticism, merely an observation). It sharpens well and quickly and while it's probably a luxury it's made a slightly laborious job in to a one minute job. I read on another review that a child could put their finger in the larger of the two holes - while this is true, there is a sliding button on the top, which you have to slide and hold in place for the motor to work on the larger hole. So, while it's possible to sharpen you're finger I would say it's pretty difficult and would have to be very purposeful..

Not great ...struggles
Not really impressed with this sharpener . I have a manual shark which does the job much better .It struggles to sharpen and you have to turn the pencil .

No more blunt crayons!
Bought the sharpeners (2) for my grandchildren, but have decided to keep one back and see how long the first one lasts, so have one in reserve. It will get a lot of use as they love their colouring and had a box full of blunt crayons and pencils. I helped them initially sharpen all their crayons, normal size and thicker ones and we did a very good job. Now have a pencil box full of lovely sharp points. My five year old granddaughter managed eventually to get the hang of using the sharpener (you have to hold the crayon tightly and resist the temptation to turn with the sharpener - if that makes sense). Good value for money. Would recommend.
