Q: Could you recommend the best 3V socket to DC power extension lead to purchase for this item, please?

I would try a universal adaptor, but make sure that it's set at 3 volts. A universal adaptor will have a choice of jack plugs. At least one of these should fit the recorder. Try a Maplins store.

Q: can i record from my laptop/phone/ipad thanks

Playback from pre-recorded, or tapes recorded from another unit were okay, but I found whether recording from the inbuilt mic or an external mic useless, as the sound was drowned out by a loud hum. Tried two different recorders, company sent me a second unit FOC, but both useless for recording.

Q: Does this work on batteries

Yes. The tape recorder takes two AA batteries. The battery compartment is at the back of the machine, opposite the play button. Simply slide it up and it will open, but it doesn't come off. Install two AA batteries with the spring against the flat end of the battery. Both batteries go in the same way.

Q: What size must the microphone input be on the Trevino cr410 portable cassette recorder

It takes the 3.5mm jack but even with an external microphone you will be wasting your money. The Bush model is slightly better and sufficed for my wife's PIP Assessment (though 2 are needed for this)
