To Ride A Silver Broomstick: New Generation Witchcraft

Love her or hate her
A quick Google search will show you that people either love Silver Ravenwolf or hate her. I personally love her and suggest the review of her work called one hundred witches on tumblr. It's closest to the truth.I've read this book several times and am reading it again. I've also loaned it to others and never got it back so they apparently liked it as well. Her writing style is very down to earth, uncomplicated, and easy to understand. To Ride a Silver Broomstick was the second pagan book I read following Scott Cunningham. That was almost twenty years ago and I have now become a dedicant in The Black Forest Tradition. For those starting out on a solitary pagan path this is a great primer with lots of exercises and history. Yes, I said it, history. People may not agree with her history but I believe those people are splitting hairs. I also do not agree that she is condescending and dislikes other religions in particular Christianity. If you've read any of her other work you would know that this is not true. Especially any of her Pow wow books. What Silver dislikes about Christianity is that many Christian denominations bash Paganism and are very much "our way is the only one true way." That doesn't mean she dislikes Christians.Ignore the negative reviews, this book is a good read as are the two others in this series. Read it, take what you want from it and leave the rest, after all, that is what Silver would tell you to do.

Excellent Reference Book For Anyone!
This book, like all of Silver RavenWolf's books, is full of great information for the wiccan way of life. Whether starting out, just curious, or adding knowledge to your library, her books are a wonderful addition. For someone who is not so much starting out as embracing what has always been there, I really enjoy this book. It is evident that she leans strongly towards a specific sect and is more religious in regards to her practice than I am.Not everyone feels that Wicca is a religion, but more of a lifestyle. I fall into the latter. I ignore these references, but I can see how that can be difficult for some. I am in this for growing my knowledge and expanding my gifts.A friend of mine has an older publication of this book, and I was excited to get the updated version. We did compare them and luckily she didn't really change much to alter the feel or purpose of the book. This book is great for starting out. Learning of different sects, divination, rituals and techniques. Not to forget the different paths ne may choose to follow and how they intertwine with your natural state of being. The different Goddesses & Gods different paths pay homage to. What the Holidays are, their history and how to celebrate. This is a great reference book for moon magick, herbal uses, candle correspondences, runes and spells. I ignore the religious undertone and take away the knowledge, which is what I would suggest to anyone to do who is starting out until you decide your path. I'm eclectic and take away what calls to me and push aside what doesn't.Keep in mind that it is sometimes difficult for someone to write without being biased and putting their preferences as to sect and divination. Especially since that is how they live their daily lives. Take the knowledge and experience to enhance your personal life and skills. The rest is just advice that you can decide to follow or not.

I liked it
I understand not every book is going to be for everybody, but I seriously don't understand the bashing the 1 star reviews give her. I never got a condescending tone and she even recommended several books at the end of each chapter that I saw one reviewer say was better. Now I have the newer version so maybe they were not in the original, but if they were then how can one say she doesn't know what she is talking about if she recommends books that "more knowledgeable" reviewers say to buy? I also liked the "silly" journal writing she has you do. Yes I will read more than just her, but I feel she knows what she is talking about. I am a beginner solitary witch and do not plan on joining a coven which some other reviewers seem to think is mandatory. I also do not plan on being Wiccan and do not feel this book sees that as the same as witchcraft, in fact if i remember right she states that SOME people use them interchangeably but that is to each their own on how they define the two words. All in all I like it and plan on reading more of her work.

Classic addition!
I had the paperback when it was first came out and regretfully gave it away to a girlfriend. I am glad to have found the kindle and audible version's as I have missed having it to refer to from time to time. I liked the old cover so much that I did a rather large oil painting of it which I still have. Silver has a style of writing that harkens back to the early days of Cunningham, Telesco etc. that I am very comfortable with. The book was and is a good intro/supplement to your practice. I have been a practitioner myself for much longer than I care to admit and I will confess that this book will leave it's mark on you in a verypositive way. Don't be swayed by know it all's who would detract from this little gem because there are and never will be anyone who know's all and if you find someone who claims superior status when it come's to being in relationship with the Lady and Lord, the good people or the elementals do an about face, go home open up "Broomstick" or any other of Silver's books and get in communion with the only perfect one's you'll ever meet. Also check out Ray Bucklands big blue book. The Farrar's Witches Bible and Scott Cunningham, Laurie Cabot, Orion Foxwood and of course Pappa Gardener and you'll be on your way. Most importantly BE......

Perfect book for anyone with questions
While I know Silver Ravenwolf is not for everyone, her books were the first I bought for myself when I began my search many years ago. Now, one of my granddaughters is following in not only my footsteps, but her mother's and aunt's too. So, it was only natural to get her a copy for herself. Yes, I reccomend this book for anyone searching. It is easy to read and easy to understand.

A comprehensive guide to Wicca
This is the second copy of the book I have bought. The first one had a different cover, which I didn't like very much. The cover on this edition is excellent, giving a much better representation of the contents. Silver Ravenwolf is an American authoress and I am English, so I am hard to please, preferring the writings of Rae Beth and Kate West in the main. However, if I did pick an American, it would be Silver. Her book is very comprehensive, covering all aspects of Wicca, Pow Wow in an interesting way, going into detail, but not too much. This book is a great start for a new Wiccan or witch. It is a wonderful study aid and I have used it many times, coming back to it time and time again to check on something or learn something new.Silver is cautious in her approach and there are plenty of warnings to a new dedicant. She takes her subject seriously and this comes across in many different ways.I can certainly recommend this book and personally, I would not be without it.Star
