I never leave reviews but this one is a must. This gate belt on my 89 yr old mother recovering from a broken leg was just what was needed for the therapist to help her stand. The ordinary gate belt rode up and injured her ribs. This one with the added stirrups kept it in place with no injuries. We are now hopeful she can progress and walk again. Every therapist should have one.

Such a great help for my 90 y gma. But one leg strap broke. Can I buy a replacement?

APPLYING.The nylon waist straps are thick, which you'd want in a belt like this, and the tri-bar buckles are tight, also what you'd want. As such I found it easier to get the fit as close as possible to the patient's size before putting it on due to the tension of new strapping and tight buckles being hard to work with.STRENGTH.The use of side release buckles facilitates quick and easy use but also creates a failure point in the buckles themselves. As I've done with gait belts I attempted to intentionally break this one by securing all buckles, placing my boot in one end of the loop and pushing, and gripping and pulling the handles at the opposite end. I cant tell you how much force I applied but nothing broke or warped and so I felt justified in using it on a patient.QUALITY.The handles are nylon sleeves with interior padding and are comfortable to grip. Thick gauge thread and reinforced stitching secure all attachment points. The material isn't soft but its not overly rigid or coarse either, it just feels substantial. The leg straps are covered in a soft felt like material that should likely not be a problem for the patient if it contacts bare skin.TO LEG STRAP OR NOT?I'm of the opinion that gait belts shouldn't have leg straps. A transfer belt is a device which provides a caregiver with something to grasp in order to lift a patient. In this purpose leg straps make sense as they add to the lifting power. A gait belt is a device which provides a caregiver with something to grasp in order to prevent falls while a patient is walking, The issue I take here is that I've personally never seen leg straps do anything but exacerbate a problematic gait in a mobility compromised patient. Having said that, the fact that this product's leg straps can be quickly removed once the patient is standing is a very smart design giving us the best of both worlds.

It didn't work for me because it slipped up my body and I need it to work on my lower body. I gave it to my Dad it use. It works on him

I wish I had owned this device two years ago after having two knee replacements in a year. This belt fits perfectly, has generous proportions and is adjustable on all the connections, both around your torso as well as the two straps that you put your legs through. There is a nice non slip surface on the inside of the belt that keeps its in place and from riding up. The leg loops are generously padded as well as all of the various handles that your helper can grab on to provide assistance if you need it while walking or moving from bed to chair. You can also detach the leg loops very quickly and easily if needed. I know I’ll have occasion to use this belt in the coming year as I have a hip replacement coming up and this will make it so much easier and safer to help me get around while recuperating. It’s a great source of confidence and security as you recover from this type of surgery knowing that your unsteady steps can be assisted with this kind of device.
