Absolutely Fabulous DVD
Would have preferred to have been able to purchase this on Prime Video, but it wasn’t available. But that doesn’t detract from a simply brilliant DVD. To see the look of awe and wonder on Joanna’s face when she finally gets to see the Aurora is worth the cost of this alone!A visually stunning DVD that’s worth watching time and time again!

Northern Lights Magic
Joanna Lumley In The Land of The Northern Lights [DVD]Having seen this first on Tv and loved it, I had to get the DVD, it was s dream of Joanna as a child to see the Nothern Lights after readind Ponny the Penguin, this follows her journey to Norway and get to see the people she meets on her way North. Joanna has always had a genuine interest in people and it is shown very clearly here, she has never behaved like a "celebrity" - and remains her ever charming self and the people she met along the way recognised this and it was clear they genuinely liked her. The Laplanders are amazing people and very colourful and happy- it was quite funny to know they had Broadband there and using mobile phones!.Her journey continues ever Northwards and included a night in an Ice Hotel - brave girl, not for the faint hearted, she eventually arrives at the place where her chances of seeing the "Tricky Lady" are best - and sure anough she was rewarded with the most incredible sight I have ever seen, and I also was in tears, it was truly magical, and Greig playing in the background make it even more emotioanal. Joanna just lay down on the ice and watched it and she was indeed very overwhelmed, I wold LOVE to see them myself, it is surely THE wonder of the world, magical.

A magical trip full of awe and wonder.
When Joanna Lumley was a little girl growing up in Malaya, she once read "Ponny the Penguin" by Veronica Basser. This little children's book included an illustration of the eponymous Ponny looking up and admiring the Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights. Ever since reading the book and seeing this picture, Joanna has spent her life hoping to one day see the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, for herself. Now, as a mother - and grandmother - she has her chance!Joanna Lumley in the Land of the Northern Lights [DVD] follows her journey northwards through Norway into the Arctic Circle, visiting exciting places and meeting fascinating people along the way. The awesome climax of the Northern Lights is truly spectacular and breathtaking. The Bonus Features include an alternative opening titles scene, a wonderful deleted scene of even more fascinating people that Joanna met along the way, and one reflective scene about what lies even further north of where Joanna witnessed the Lights, as well as a "Making of..." documentary. All are definitely worth taking the time to watch. This is an awe-inspiring film that will leave the whole family spellbound. If you have young children, show it to them too; it might well inspire them to make their own journey to witness the Northern Lights one day!

SPELL - BINDING PLACE
I missed this programme when it was first aired on the BBC but after reading the reviews I purchased this brilliant 60 min REGION B/2 DVD and was certainly not disappointed. The scenery was breathtaking and magical.Joanna's adventure starts from Trondheim railway station in Norway where after her train journey she travels by husky- sledge, snowmobile, boat and car via A, Lofoten Islands, Kautokeino, Alta, Tromso and northwards to Longyearbyen in Svalbard. The documentary shows her explore the romantic fjords, speed across endless expanses of Lapland tundra with a Sami herdsman in search of his reindeers. She is also treated to a yolk, a traditional song by one of the community's elders and as she reaches the Artic Ocean, prepares for a ''good nights sleep'' in an ice hotel. The main question is will she see ''the tricky lady'' better known as the northern lights? After watching the documentary I would advise you to watch the extras which are also interesting - them beingDeleted scenes Alternative pre-title Stina and Anita in Tromoso Svalbard seed vault Filming the northern lightsDVD - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED .

Northern Lights.
I recieved my product very quick,I started watching it 2 days ago,I was absolutely enthralled in the camera-work,the scenery is spectacular,I had aspirations of going to Scandinavia in the next 2 years & hopefully seeing the Northern Lights but now i'm determined.Joanna Lumley presents it brilliantly, she adds comedy where it's needed but has a direct, respectful approach to her conquest,I thought her fussy & quite stuffy but I was proved wrong & don't mind admitting,I will be tempted to purchase some of her other documentaries. The Northern Lights are truly Inspirational, life changing & really are a wonder of the world, the places in this DVD are unbelievable, now the world is more accessible I will definitely be putting Scandinavia on my list of places to visit,a great production & a recommended watch on a cold autumn day.

Joanna Lumley plus Northern Lights -- a winning combination!
As with other documentaries by Joanna Lumley, this one does not disappoint! Joanna's genuine charm and sincerity in meeting people along the way, her enthusiasm at every turn, her wonderful voice gushing over everything she encounters, her subtle sense of humor -- all are pure pleasure. Although experiencing the Northern Lights is her ultimate goal, her personality makes the journey there unforgettable. This goes for her other travel DVDs too (I own and frequently watch Joanna Lumley's Nile, and Joanna Lumley's Greek Odyssey, and highly recommend both). I hope she is able to make more travel documentaries. Until then, I will re-watch the three I have, with huge enjoyment every time!

"Wonder of the world"

good dvd - but not region 1
I was able to watch this dvd on my computer, by changing the region. I like Joanna Lumley's travel stories very much. It did have a lot of preliminaries until it finally got to the Lights. For someone who is never going to see the Lights, this was a good substitute.University of North Alaska has another dvd about the Northern Lights, which has more of the Lights and explains how the lights come about.
