Drywall definitely yes. It will read on concrete, but more expensive meters like Bosch do readings specifically for a range of common items, including concrete.

Q: What kind of battery suits for this meter?

AAA batteries for both older model and the newer upgrade. But some DR meters, like the more expensive soil one, take a 9 volt. You will go through batteries, so always have spares in the field. They tend to expire in accordance with Murphy s Law.

This would not be very good for that application. There needs to be contact on roughly a 2" x 3" surface. Unless you've got some massive chunks, this is not the way to go.
