Literally saved my holiday!
I had to have an infected cyst removed from my back two weeks before I was due to go on holiday to the Maldives. The op left me with a 2cm hole in the middle of my back and aftercare instructions of no swimming whatsoever as the wound was not to get wet under any circumstances. I was gutted - we had chosen the Maldives specifically for the snorkelling; there is pretty much nothing else to do out there. I found this product after searching on line and in spite of a couple of negative reviews, decided to give it a go. I cannot rate it highly enough. It literally saved my holiday. I did take a couple of extra precautions, largely based on the few negative reviews of this product. I wondered if the one where 'it didn't stick at all' was due to suncream, so I bought a half wetsuit so I could snorkel without needing to use any suncream at all on my back. It easily stood up to two or three snorkelling sessions of an hour or more EVERY DAY and did not let one drop of water in! (Changed the dressing daily as this was part of the aftercare) Read the instructions carefully, follow them to the letter, make sure the site is clean and completely dry when you apply it - it will not let you down.

Use it to keep adhesive dressing dry in the shower
Had abdominal surgery and used this product to keep the dressing - as well as the wound itself - dry in the shower. It has worked brilliantly for this purpose every time! Tried all sorts of methods, but this is the only one which has allowed me to shower without worrying, being careful etc.I had to change my dressing every day, so the way this stuck to each dressing wasn't a problem (have to throw it away and put on a new one any way). If you need to keep your dressing on for longer though, I think this film would still be useful in the same way, just adapted a little (cut a piece of paper or cloth etc to a size that's a bit bigger than the size of your dressing, then cut this film to a larger size than that, stick the paper/cloth to the centre of the film, then place this over your own dressing). The seal of this film hasn't ever broken - if you're careful about how you put it on, I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Good for skin that doesn't curve (i.e. the neck)
If one is using this on their arms, back or legs, it's excellent. But if one tries to use it on their (e.g.) neck or ankle, or "high-movement" areas; it doesn't work, it just peels off.

Great for large wounds from Mountain biking injuries
This product saved my holiday - before my usual trip DH biking in the alps I did a great job of removing the skin from my left hip and arm. With only a few days to go I was not sure how to manage the injury as I was going to be highly active on the bike, in hot weather wearing full body armour. Using this with a non-adherent dressing worked incredibly well. I was able to wear the armour, ride and shower without affecting the wound site.I would note though, large abrasions where the basement membrane of tissue is visible needs an absorbent alginate type dressing as without the top layer of skin the basal layer leaks tissue fluid and the opsite will fill up with fluid like a balloon.

Gave me a rash
The actual product works, it’s easy to put on and adds protection. However it gave me a rash on the area and made it very red and itchy. Taking it off was painful although maybe it wouldve been better to take off in the shower.

Perfect alternative to Tegaderm in my case...
According to the patient leaflet it is 'permeable' and waterproof. In this case it means it is 'breathable' as it allows gases and vapour to pass through the dressing, whilst allowing the dressing or patch underneath to remain dry. If it was 'impermeable' then it would not allow air or anything else to pass through, making it air/water tight. Anyways thought I'd try and clear that up.However, I bought this to place over my BuTrans patch as recommended by my pharmacists as it is way cheaper than Tegaderm. Tegaderm is more flexible and it's primarily used to apply to open/broken skin. Opsite Flexifix is not sterile, therefore it shouldn't be used directly on open sores/cuts.Opsite Flexifix Does the job I need it for. It keeps my patch on and keeps it dry, so I can now shower and swim without worry of getting it too wet and coming unstuck or wasting patches by having to replace them more often.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT for dressings and keeping medical patches in situ
Opsite is a very thin adhesive waterproof film which is used in hospitals to keep all types of dressing in place. I use it when medicinal patches come loose during hot weather. It has a low allergy level - great where traditional plasters and micropore cause the dreaded itchy rash.If you use medical patches you will know how hot weather and hot baths reduce their adherence and you begin to get that crackling sound when they are coming loose.I have used this film for 24-72 hours each time and it ALWAYS keeps patches in place that would otherwise have come off. This is especially important if you use morphine/analgesia patches because not only are they expensive, but if a patch comes off without your knowledge it's absence will eventually cause dreadful withdrawal symptomsOverall: a fantastic adhesive film which is cost effective and very reliable. I find one metre is enough for several weeks.
