Perfect for children beginning to read independently
My daughter has been struggling with progressing her reading from a basic sight-word level to more complex stories, mainly because she found the books that are meant to bridge the gap too boring. I was beginning to get concerned that she would lose interest in reading and it would have a long-term impact on her interest in books.I remembered these stories from when I was at primary school more than thirty years ago and bought this collection version of the books to see if it would interest her.It has proved to be an excellent purchase. She was slightly intimidated by the thickness of the book, but I showed her most of the stories are no more than 10-12 pages. There are a few adorable illustrations, but not so many that my daughter could use them to guess what the words would be as she does with many books - here she actually had to concentrate on the sentences. There is plenty of repetition to help new words sink in, without it feeling like an educational tool.I am blown away by how much more fluidly she reads these stories - because they hold her interest and make us both laugh. They are a little old-fashioned, but not in a bad way, I actually like them all the more for that.I think they are an ideal bridge from early reader picture books to more complex, mainly text-based books. The text is in a slightly larger size and the lines are double spaced to allow young readers to more easily keep their place when scanning from one line to the next.

High recommend
These are timeless stories of family adventures. The language and possibly the things used are different but when reading you can explain anything from past ages. We're enjoying reading these again. The physical book is like War and Peace i.e. a HUGE paperback but these stories are to be read aloud. It's not a picture book although there are some of Shirley Hughes drawings per story.

Beautifully written
These stories were my absolute favourite as a child and started my love of reading. I bought these for my friend's daughter who's 5 but her 3 year old sister loves to hear them too. Bedtime is now so much easier

Great stories for fun or encouraging self reading
Granddaughter aged 5 captivated and wanted to read stories herself which is a first as often reluctant. Lots of repetition and approachable vocabulary so great for building early reading stamina. May not be as stretching as school readers but equally important to cement basics and enjoy the read. Sense of achievement too.

Just one book with multiple stories
Be aware it is just one book. I thought collection meant a book for each story. It was my mistake but I prefer individual books. Having said this the pages are in large type great for young readers

This book is 'real', funny and sympathetic, very more-ish.
I'm reading this with my 4 year old grandson, who has his own 'naughty little sister'. First non picture book, but he loves it as he identifies with the characters. Each story is of a great size for bedtime, even two can be snuck in some nights.

Still good after all these years.
I bought this as a present and the recepient - who has a naughty little sister of her own - loves this book.Although the stories can be a bit twee they are still relevant and enjoyable.

My naughty little sister collection
Brilliant book my granddaughter aged 7 loved it but sometimes wondered what she had actually done wrong but that is just because of how the world had changed lol but what my granddaughter wouldn't understand was how such a little girl was allowed out on her own, that made me sad remembering when it was safe to play out for hours on your own, definitely worth buying lovely book great value and very happy granddaughter

Another classic children's book
Another classic children's book that is a must for every children's book collector. We love Shirley Hughes and this is another great storybook with her illustrations. They just don't publish books like this anymore, with her beautiful illustrations and simple but beautiful and relate-able stories. Every parent should read these books to her children.

old fashioned
It is a very old fashioned book, written in the times when children were expected to behave in certain socially-acceptable ways, and when they behave like children do, in unacceptable ways they are labelled "bad". This labeling would be frowned upon today. Other than that, the book has a nostalgic charm. The story-telling is nice and the illustrations are lovely.
