MAGNETIC, Solid Wood, Chess Set

Bought this because my cats keep moving my chess pieces. I wanted something made of wood that looks good, has the ranks and files numbered and lettered. I checked out several sets and this one fit the bill, plus it is foldable, all the wooden pieces have a little mould in a green felt compartment and fit neatly, no flying around in the box, no bruising of the woodCarving is nice and exactly as you can see it in the picture.All around: 5 stars: this is well worth your money, delivery was also spectacularly fast. And in case you wonder: You can turn the board almost into vertical position (slowly, mind you!) and the pieces will stay in place. This is more than enough to keep them in place in every day use, in moving vehicles etc. Someone knocks against the table you're playing on? The pieces will stay in place.

For £24, you get what you pay for. This is not a set for life and would probably not survive a beating in an average busy young family environment. If cared for it would last a while I guess. There is no robust carry case or protection for travel. The box surface would be easily scratched or damaged. The box is nicely made with proper wood joints and looks reasonably robust. The board size is a nice compromise, not too big for a coffee table, small enough to fit in a suitcase. The magnetic pieces work well and I had no issues with weak magnetic effect, certainly a good idea in households where the board may get knocked. The pieces themselves are nicely formed, made by machine rather than hand made (what do you expect for £24). The box hinges and clasp are nailed in with small pins so may pull out eventually. My biggest disappointment is the green beige effect plastic inserts that hold the pieces. These inserts are lightweight, thin and would easily crack or break if not cared for. Overall I'm pleased with it, but I would say if you need something that's going to last a long time and needs to be taken on travel trips often then maybe consider a more expensive, more robust set.

I purchased this chess board as a gift and they were thrilled with it. it's the perfect size, not too big but not too small, tidy and neat enough to bring while traveling and also light in weight. I myself personally like the magnetic feature which makes playing the game far more comfortable, I also like the storage inside the board. because each piece has it's own place there is no moving around making noise when the game is not in play. Over all I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

The quality of this chess set overall is absolutely amazing.. I kinda figured most kids only have one chess set bought for them so I wanted to buy my son a nice looking one. This one stood out because it is made of wood.. The only problem I 3 of the bottoms of the pieces ie the magnets fell out. I super glued back in. But because of overall quality I wont put the 5 star mark down

I really like this set as the board and the pieces look very nice. The magnetic feature is also very good to stop pieces moving around. The size of the board means that it doesn't take up much space when playing nor when being stored. The board folds with a clasp holding the two sides together. The clasp is a little bit tricky for me, but then I need a slightly longer fingernail.I also like that the pieces have their own storage compartment with a spot for each piece.I would have like to have seen an extra queen and rook of each colour, but this would have made the board a little big bigger as storage would be needed for these extra pieces. I highly recommend this set.

Initially sceptical about how magnetic a wooden board of this size could be. Exceeds expectations.Now I can play chess with one son while the other is having his swimming lessons!Also beautifully crafted .

Good looking board and generally a quality product. Two small issues which,* My son dropped one of the pieces and the felt bottom and magnet detached. Nothing a bit of glue cant fix.* The inner lining that holds the pieces is very thin, felt backed plastic that I can see cracking in the future.,

A good quality (nothing spectacular mind you) wooden chess set. The size is just about right for me. The magnets are just strong enough to keep the pieces in place, but not too strong as i have seen in other chess sets. Overall a vfm wooden chess set.
