I find AC power is going down more often than it used to, partly because it is California and they have some protection built in such that if a power line gets hit by a branch or even animal it could cause it to shut down power to prevent triggering a wildfire. It usually stays down for at least 2 + hour, sometimes more. Several times I've been on the very of having a whole refrigerator and freezer's worth of food spoiling so I ended up getting a 2 Kwh power station solely for my frig/freezer. Already had to use it twice in the last few months. During the day it is easy to know obviously when power goes down and I just go down and plug my frig into the power station. This little gem provides the protection if power ever goes down in the middle of the night while I am sleeping. It is nice & loud and would easily wake me up from even the deepest slumber. Well worth the investment and I highly recommend it. Only one con I would note. I'm not sure this would be loud enough if for example you are monitoring an outlet or device on the other side of the house or something. For me I just plug it into an outlet right in my bedroom because when I have a power issue the entire home is always affected. Suggest an enhancement where the main device can communicate with a wireless receiver and sound the alarm in the bedroom even if the monitoring device itself is on the other side of the house. Nevertheless this product is easily worth 5 stars. Update: on 6/8 AC power went down about 10:30pm when I was sleeping. This product indeed did its job well and woke me up from a deep sleep. Power was down until almost 4:30am and then was barely up for like an hour and went down again for another hour and a half. There is 100% chance my entire freezer and frig would have been full of spoiled food had it not been for this great product. Wish I could give this 10 stars!!

These little power outage gadgets are awesome! They're the only model I could find that allows you to use regular AAA batteries. All the other brands/models use rechargeable batteries which go dead in a few years, and then you have another item that needs to be recycled. They are loud, work reliably and have the buttons on the front to easily silence them in an outage. I purchased a huge bag of 14 of these units and every last one worked flawlessly. I'm using the Energizer AAA lithium batteries in these which have up to a 20-year shelf life. Since the power only goes out once or twice a year for only a few hours they should last a while. Also, they have a choice of alert tones to choose from that DO NOT sound like a smoke detector. You could get your home broken into by the fire dept if your neighbor calls them saying your smoke detector is going off. Not a problem with this alarm as the alert tones sound different and are intermittent.

We are renting a home built in the 1970s. The standard for ground fault circuits in this area at that time was to have a single GF circuit in the garage that handled all the outlets that were near water sources: kitchen, bathrooms, etc. I recently purchased a chest freezer and put it in the garage. If the circuit gets tripped in the kitchen or bath (e.g., toaster, oven, hair dryer) there was no way for us to know that the freezer was without power. The alarm is very loud and there is no way anyone would be able to sleep through it; never mind miss it if awake in a 2,500 square-foot ranch house. 😃 Would recommend.

Loud alarm, or option of only visual alarm. Both work well. Highly recommend rechargeable batteries, as the device will keep them charged when it has power. My only nit is I obviously got a unit that had been previously purchased and returned. The screws that hold the back cover in place were missing.

In recent years, more power outages have been occuring in our area. I think it's due to more housing areas are being developed and a higher demand for power consumption plays a role for frequent power outages. In any case, I wanted to have an alarm that I can rely on while sleeping at night when severe stoms coming to the area. Couple of months ago, one night the alarm came on around 2:00 AM when it was pouring down outside. As it happened twice in the past, the sump pump in the basement stopped working and water level was coming up to the top. After about an hour later, the power was not restored back, and had to start a gas generator on to power the pump. Without the alarm from this little device, the basement could have been flooded in few hours while sleeping. Highly recommend this to anyone who worries about power outage during night or day.

Our garage has a GFI outlet that a refrigerator is plugged into. The refrigerator is in front of the plug so when we had a brief power outage, we didn't notice the light had turned red. Lost a freezer full of meat so purchased this little alarm to make sure it doesn't happen again. Just had a power outage yesterday morning and the alarm was so loud I think my neighbors must have heard it! Great tool for anywhere you have a GFI outlet. Excellent purchase!

These work great. We bought a second one after trying out the first, and they've already saved a fridge and freezer full of food. The alarm is nice and loud (you can choose among several and adjust the volume), and has always worked as expected, both in testing and in an actual power failure. The icing on the cake: if you use rechargeable AAA batteries, the unit charges them itself. Any modern device like this should do this, using consumer-replaceable rechargeable batteries, but before purchasing this one we were using an older unit that didn't. We're using these alarms on two GFCI outlets, one with a fridge/freezer combo and one with a chest freezer. GFCI outlets are notoriously troublesome, and before we put alarms on ours, we lost a chest freezer full of food without being able to repeat the issue or find the cause of the tripping. These alarms are the answer.

It's saved my life twice so far and I only ordered it a month ago. Our power goes out a lot and this little beauty has let me know that the power was out and my oxygen machine was off. Both times were in the middle of the night while I was in a deep sleep
