Bit of a Pain
I bought this to play with my cajon. It is a good instrument. It gives very good volume for something with only 2 jingles. So much so, that I use a hair bobble strung between the 2 spigots on top to dampen the jingles slightly. The spigots allow for a lot of room for the jingles to move, so the bobble restricts their full range of movement making them quieter. The down side is the comfort when playing. The contour of the instrument allows you to put one finger under the elastic, however my fingers are slender enough (for a bloke) and this means the instrument is quite loose. If you are gently moving your hand back and forth, there is no issue. However as I hit the solid face of the cajon, it tends to move on my hand, and the edges of the contoured underside can hit against the fingers either side of the middle finger. I tried putting two fingers under the elastic, which is very awkward and this helped at lower volumes, but as I increase volume (and essentially force of impact), the jingles again move around and I end with bruises, usually on my index finger. My solution was to cut the contoured underside with a chisel to flatten it out and duct taped some padding on. The reason for 3 stars is that although the sound out of this is very good (5 stars) the pain of playing - for me - meant this was not fit for purpose without modification.
