The Bay [DVD]

Pretty horrific plot I have to say. Good movie.
In general, I am no fan of the whole hand-held camera genre. I have toyed around with them, The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity left me cold, I avoid most of them. After I saw Cloverfield, which I did enjoy, in particular the fact that it leaves you knowing very little really about what it had been about, I thought that worked.Even though this is another of these I thought that the trailer whetted my appetite quite well, and decided it was interesting enough to try it. And it certainly is well made, but then Barry Levinson is a seasoned director which will have helped a great deal. It's a short film but it is crammed with content, and the actual storyline when it reveals itself I have to say is genuinely horrific and highly believable. Without giving any spoilers it is hard to say a lot more, so I'll leave it at that except to say that it isn't often I admit that a horror film is actually horrifying, yet this one is because of the angle and originality of the plot. Well worth a watch for sure.

another cheap "hand held " fake ''real'' blog diary nonsense
i thought the fake dairy blog thing was just an into.. i did nt expetct a film to be so benal, plotless and pedestrain to just carry on like that ... Like i said: no plot.and yet... depsite not carrying things like plot or depth.... like you might think a fil might do in the past... it still cairres the same gimmmicks as the worst normal films.. the jumpshock sound and visial explosiveness .. i assumed that would happen so i left the sound down so it would not be at least invasive... which of course means i took the option of not caring if i missed some of the STANDARD WISPERING CONVERSATIONS..who ever likes this is maybe either cast and crew or..... [pre-dacted.. take the 5th amendment]anywayi guess the film is complict with the hoaxdemic?

It is another found footage film which the market is saturated in but this didn't have that horrible running around with the cam
I had low expectations when I started watching this but I was pleasantly surprised. It is another found footage film which the market is saturated in but this didn't have that horrible running around with the camera stuff going on. It's clips brought together from different sources to tell the story which I liked. It's doesn't have the best acting but for an easy watch horror it was enjoyable.

The Bay.
An intelligent and effective eco-horror using a found-footage approach, documenting the outbreak of a plague of aggressive parasites at Chesapeake Bay during a national American Holiday. It's a low-budget effort, but the format is well-handled and is all the more unsettling in that it has a basis in real ecological facts; the multiple story-lines linked by a reporter's investigative narrative helps keep the viewer's interest and conveniently explains the situations as they develop. It's a neat twist on a familiar formula, in some ways reminiscent of “Jaws”; not a bad little film of it`s kind. The DVD release offers a decent 16:9 aspect ratio picture that is sharp and clear (considering the nature of the sources) on a large-screen TV; subtitles in English are available but you may need to adjust your screen-settings to view them properly. The only extras are an 8 minute “behind the scenes” with director Barry Levinson and a trailer.

Gruesome but oddly riveting!
Seeking to merge the conventions of found-footage horror with targeted social commentary, the film does its job with some skill. More coherent and thought-provoking than most 'found-footage' horror movies, this should appeal to genre fans and eco-activists alike. The Bay will definitely have people feeling a little hesitant to go into the water any time soon.

Skin crawling - literally - squirm inducing, tense, terrific, terrifying treat
Whilst it may lack the starry cast of a Hollywood blockbuster, The Bay more than makes up for that shortcoming with a fantastically magnificent gross out ick fest. Sublime entertainment of the highest order. Short but very, very swee-- scratch that, sour. Extremely sour. Would have received 5 stars but it's simply not long enough. Aside from slight wrinkle this is a must see movie. Just not for the faint of heart. Must have a strong stomach.

A Wet Nightmare!
The Bay was one of those bits of cinema that I was never really fussed about. Set in the 'ever popular' style of 'found footage', but with something a little bit new to bring to the table. The scope seems much larger than most found footage films (with the obvious exception of Cloverfield), and the characters seem to have more depth. There is defiantly an element stolen (or respectful borrowed) from The Tunnel (which, by the way, is probably the best found footage horror film around!), in that the film is portrayed as a documentary, with survivors etc, talking though the events, interspersed with 'news clips' etc. Much research went into this film and you can tell. It is a very believable concept and it is well executed. Worth a watch, but I would recommend Blu-Ray rather than standard DVD as the resolution is important to really 'see everything' and not miss too much in all of the chaos that ensues!

Very well made.
I usually hate these types of handheld/found footage movies but look who is behind this and then you realise why it's as good as it is. It's a short movie but very well made.
