Best for very young musicians
I'm an elementary school music teacher and I'm always on the lookout for less expensive options for the "sound effect" type instruments that don't get a whole lot of playing time.This set of 3 ocean drums are graduated in size. The smaller two are all plastic - even the beads inside. While you do get some "whooshing" with careful tilting, it's not quite the same sound that you expect. They do seem fairly sturdy and they're small enough for young students to play with them.The largest of the three has metal beads and sounds a lot more like what I was expecting. I'm not sure it's as high quality as some of the other brands I've used in my classrooms over the years, but it is good enough to last a couple years with light use.
