Biochemistry For Dummies, 2nd Edition

Such an amazing introduction for someone who is starting with no prior knowledge in Bio-Chem!

I had attempted at one point to read a biochemistry text and it was slow going. I could not see the forrest for the trees, i.e., I tended to get lost in the detail and not get the big picture. I have almost read this book, annotated it heavily, and it is giving me the big picture. Now that I see the forrest, perhaps I can have a look at the trees. As an RN, I had a basic understanding of biology. I had also read a basic college level chemistry text. One might want to read Chemistry for Dummies first if you don't have that, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. One of the things that I like about this book is that it takes away the mystique that only scientists, doctors, etc. can understand biochemistry. You have to work at it hard, but you can get it.

This is a great book. It doesn't show you everything you need to know, but as a supplement and easy read, it really explains things and I understand it. Chemistry is not my strongest subject, but its good to have books like this. Like I said, it doesnt tell you if the process occurs in the mitochondria or cytosol, but that's why it's good to go to class and ask the professor. As far as the different topics go, they are all organized neatly, which makes things easier to find. Also, the material in each topic is not overwhelming so it is manageable to read a section or chapter without feeling like its a chore.

This book was a good addition while taking university level biochemistry. It was nice to review the overarching concepts and some of the more basic chemistry concepts before diving in. I would recommend this book to anyone who is hoping to do well (and understand) biochemistry.

This is a nice book that introduces biochemistry. It is great as a supplement to a textbook and it is affordable. Even without a textbook it is a very good and entertaining book to read - It makes biochemistry fun. I love organic chemistry and biochemistry and found this book to be very nice especially for the price. A good textbook usually costs upwards of two hundred dollars and for less than twenty percent of the price of a textbook, in my opinion, this is a very good book for organic and biochemistry enthusiasts. One of the authors also wrote a very nice introduction to general chemistry, "Chemistry for Dummies" and it is a great review of high school chemistry.

Great for beginners,or those just interested. I bought the book to better understand enzymes, and found myself reading the whole book. The humor is light,which made for less of a daunting read. I have a PH.D. as a molecular immunotoxicologist, but never took graduate level biochemistry (I know, how did that happen?). There were many times I found myself shaking my head as I was able reflect on so many molecular techniques that this book indirectly explains.

This is a really nice beginners book giving a highlevel overview of biochemistry with enough detail to make it technically useful. You can come up to speed quickly on the major topics. And its very affordable.The kindle version is buggy, at least on a kindle fire hd. For instance, you cannot highlight any word(s) on the top line of the page. And the highlights do not sync with any other kindle devices. This is the only kindle book I have that will not sync.Would give the book itself 4 stars, but downgraded due to the poor kindle quality.

This not only helped me survive Biochemistry but I ended up with a B+. The "For Dummies" series is a go to of mine and it has helped me through various tough science courses and the GRE. This book really did put things in easy to understand terms and gave me great ways to learn/memorize things. If you truly need help mastering Biochemistry then this book is for you!
