AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BY ZEB WELLS VOL. 4: DARK WEB (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN)

A mixed bag overall but a lot of fun with a positive resolution
For a while I felt like this book was getting too silly, even for me. I’m a relatively new Spidey-fan so I don’t have much at stake in this one, but I’ve been having fun reading this Zeb Wells run so far. This story took quite a turn from the regular Spider-Man universe I’ve been used to so far and actually went to the comics version of Hell, if I’m not mistaken.I really liked the looks of Chasm and Hallows Eve, and thought they made interesting villains. The Goblin Queen is also neat, and her dynamic shifts throughout the book, and I liked her redemptive arc.I thought the demon stories were too silly for me, but I got a kick out of how some of the characters even call out how ridiculous it all seems, so I enjoyed how the story wasn’t taking itself too seriously. When I first saw Rek-Rap on a cover for a newer issue I haven’t gotten to yet, I thought he was the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in comics. Now that I know who he is and got his origin story in this, he became my new favorite character in this run, and I can’t wait for him to turn up again.

Dark Web 👎
I think Marvel may have made a mistake letting Zeb Wells use Ben Reilly in ASM. The character has been warped almost beyond all recognition. Many parts of the story are either silly or downright stupid.Ben Reilly was Spider-Man when I first started reading the comics back in 1995. I've always liked the character, even when he was brought back a few years ago. The Beyond storyline was good, at first, then got strange at the end. Dark Web only made it worse. Hopefully Marvel will retcon this story and bring Ben back to where he belongs, otherwise I think his character has been ruined.

Throw up in your mouth
The Beyond story I loved. I even liked Vol.1 after Beyond. 2 not so much and 3 a little rebound warming up for the Dark Web and this dark encounter with these characters under so much trauma. Then this book comes out. I swear someone else wrote it, or they were cut off and had to just end it. The Xmen show up, something happens with them and the story just falls apart and disappears. All this build up to this an then it's shooting blanks. The good part is, this is what pushed me to stop spending money on Marvel and DC comics once and for all. I'm done. Throw up in your mouth time. Done. And oh, Dan I can mangle any character Slott is coming back. Hoo yah. Can't wait to miss that. See ya Marvel, DC. I hear Sandman calling me.
