Go for it - the book and the country
I recommend both - this book AND travelling to Mongolia!A must see destination - the beauty, the kindness, the nature, the lakes, the gers... ah, I start dreaming again. We did a tour rather than travelling independently and used the LP to complement the information we received. I was very happy with the content of the book, the clarity and also got to use some phrases successfully!

as good as any other travel guide could do with a lot more detail, some entry,s confusing like no real advice on which foreign currency to take.It seems to be written from an American perspective as the information on travelers cheques is not the same as the foreign and commonwealth office advice.

Gift for travellers. Very well received, just what was wanted. Arrived in good time, well packaged. Spot on.

Great book but a few things need updating
Lonely planet guide great help as usual, however as this is from 2014 we found that quite a lot of the restaurants no longer exist. Also, for Erdenet, we tried to visit the mine but were refused, even though the book said you could visit (I would avoid erdenet altogether - the restaurants aren't as good as the guide claims and there's not really anything to do). Obviously there are price changes also. One notable change is that you can now get a coach to tariat - from ulaanbaatar or tsetserleg (30 000/15 000). Tunga's guest house costs 20 000 T for a bed rather than the $15 in the book (she said they got it wrong). The bike ride from tsetserleg to the hot springs is a lot longer than 2.5 hours - it took us 5 hours as it was the hottest day of the year in tsetserleg. Also, the hot springs aren't much fun on such a hot day! We ran out of water and there was no clean river and very few passers by, so make sure to take enough. The downhill ride back is well worth it though. In Kharkorin I would highly recommend Gaya's guest house, which isn't in this book. She is incredibly helpful and drove us to the shops or atm whenever we wanted.Language and maps very useful though occasionally some of the maps were slightly inaccurate.
