The 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release of GoodFellas, Martin Scorsese's unforgettable film which looks at the power and brutality of mob life, features a new documentary with interviews from Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta and more, and a 36-page photo book exploring the film’s far-reaching influence. The book also includes a letter written by Martin Scorsese. Cited by film critic Roger Ebert as “the best mob movie ever”, the 2-disc Blu-ray has been remastered from a 4k scan of the original camera negative, supervised by the Scorsese himself. GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie. Following the rise and fall of a trio of gangsters over 30 years, it’s an electrifying, fact-inspired tale of living – and dying. Based on the true life best seller “Wiseguy” by Nicholas Pileggi, the film earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director and was named 1990’s ‘Best Film’ by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics.

Bravo! At last a definitive Blu-Ray transfer!
The 25th Blu-Ray Anniversary Edition of Goodfellas finally receives the transfer it deserves.Indeed, having worked my way through various DVD versions of this seminal film and the 'standard' Blu-ray edition, as well as having seen the film at the cinema, I have been frustrated at the various shortcomings of the film on-disc, be it the picture quality or sound issues. Having, too, become used to watching everything at home in HD, on television, such as various HBO series, it has been difficult to readjust then to a lower standard of picture quality with such an important film. However, this edition puts everything right. Period. The picture presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio fills the home screen (without horizontal bars) and is truly sumptuous. The depth of field is stunning: the clarity and palate simply gorgeous, and there is a softness to the presentation that makes it 'more realistic' as opposed to the 'harshness' of the original Blu-Ray edition. The sound and importantly the dialogue is in perfect synch and has a dynamic quality that makes this version seem like a completely new film. I note that Scorsese himself oversaw this new transfer - (I assume this is the version recently shown in cinemas when re-released January 2017) and, in short, this is as good as it gets. Truly.I have not scrutinised all the extras, as yet, though hope now that similar upgrades of Mean Streets and Casino will result as this particular Blu-Ray edition is mandatory for any lover of this film: Scorsese's greatest works, and the history of film. 10-stars.

A dangerously good concoction of Scorsese, Di Niro and the Rolling Stones!
Director Martin Scorsese has made many wonderful movies, and many will suggest that this 1990 tale of the underworld tops the lot. I think it stands amongst equals, but I would find it hard to argue a better. The 25th anniversary Blu-Ray is the best this classic movie has ever looked. It's a comfortable genre for the director, He excels in it, 'Mean Streets', 'Casino', and 'the Departed' offer further testimony. Adapted for the screen from the memoirs of Henry Hill, Goodfellas sizzles out loud. Ray Liotta is good as the main protagonist, equally good is his co-star Lorraine Bracco. Di Niro was gold dust in this era and continuing a well honed partnership with the director. It is perhaps Joe Pesci's ,'Tommy' that lives most chillingly in the memory. Poor Spider.

Funny How?
'Every since I was a kid I always wanted to own a Gangster Blu Ray'. Quite Simple one of the best films ever. I thought the picture quality was typical Blu Ray quality. Love the extras aswell. As for the film: fantastic performances by Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and in particular Joe Pesci (who won a Best Supporting Actor Award for his role as Brutal Hitman Tommy Devitto). Great supporting play from the likes of Lorrane Bracco and Paul Sorvino. Also see how many actors you can spot that would go onto star in The Sopranos TV show. It's amazing to think this film is now 25 years old. Still stands the test of time. 5 Stars!!!

The masterpiece just got better. FromJoe pescis Oscar winning performance to the dazzling soundtrack and amazing directing by the legend that is Martin Scorsese, this whistle stop tour of the rise of a mafioso from the 50s to the 80s is still possibly the greatest gangster film of all time. And yes I do in lie the Godfather in that category. A triumph for the genre

Want Goodfellas? This is hands down the best edition
This is by far the best version of Goodfellas you can possibly buy. The sound and picture quality are outstanding and the additional book is a good read. The extras include documentaries about the making of the films and more recent interviews with the actors. Very good stuff and a very good price
