Finally caved and bought one of these because I had a friend who's family member passed and they'd had a laptop full of childhood photos with a shattered screen. Pulled the HD, and popped it into this reader. With it, you can see the files but if they're corrupt you may need a program to help. There are free trials of software, but I ended up signing up for a subscription for a good software that could help rebuild and recover the files. Some of them were corrupt because it was from the days of Limewire downloads. I do recommend scanning the files before saving them to your computer unless you know where the drive came from. But all in all this product is very easy to use, and very helpful!

This was exactly what I needed to recover my old photos. Easy to use and got the job done.

I had 2 old SATA HD's with tons of pictures, but both the laptops were broken. I ordered this to recover all my videos and photos onto a new Windows 11 laptop.First I tried with USB but the Win 11 laptop would not recognize the USB device. I decided to try the USB-C adapter that came with the hard drive reader. I was able to get into one of the hard drives, but when I tried the second hd I got the "not recognized" error again. Windows update was up to date, but there seems to be driver issue.I connected the hard drive reader to my MAC and both hard drives were immediately recognized. I was able to transfer all my files.I did a little research and it seems a lot of people that have the issue that the PC doesn't recognize the USB device are on Windows 11.

It works just like it needs to. It's small and easy to put away when not in use. It's exactly what I needed. Might buy again if I ever need to.
