Great little gadget!
This is a great little item for kids who like gadgets. We bought one for our four-year-old son's explorer bag, as we were looking for equipment that would be small and light enough for him to carry easily, but big and robust enough to withstand use by a young child. This was perfect as it was several items in one, was a good size for a child, brightly coloured (we got the green one), and has so far survived all expeditions unscathed. We liked it so much, we bought another one to make up another explorer kit that we gave as a gift. The quality of the tools (binoculars, compass, magnifying glass etc) are not as good as you could get if you bought all these things individually, but they were certainly good enough for our son to get great enjoyment out of on days beach combing or on nature rambles, and the whole thing is small enough to slip easily into a pocket. I especially liked the little observation tray you can create using the magnifying glass and mirror.

Not bad. If someone bought it for me I'd really like it.
I was surprised how small this was, but does function as binoculars has a compass and you could use the lenses for various things. It could probably be the best thing ever for some, while being tossed-away by others. Also if you have multiple children to buy for this could be mistaken for being of lower value then other items that have greater mass. So be aware.Personally I could have lots of fun with this(!) but there you are. Not expecting anyone to buy me one.My star rating is intended to reflect what I reckon my grandson will think of it when he unpacks it and wonders what to do with it.I'm not expecting it to last very long in his care, but then again it might. He might become an optician or an astronomer because of this toy. He might use the fact that you can focus an image with the lenses or even project a picture of a table lamp. Later in life it could be him who works out how it can be combined with computer imaging or techniques for greater than light speed data transmission. You see what a wonderful thing this could be.

Does everything
Great for spies, nature lovers, explorers or anyone really, aged from 3 to, well adult age. It is probably more of a toy though than serious adult piece of kit. We inherited one from a relative who is grown up, but who was getting rid of his childhood things. My children love it so much, I searched it out and found it was still available, so have bought some as presents for my children's friends.

Great for a Spy Kid!
If you have a kid that pretends to be a spy then this will be a hit. My daughter carries it to school and pretty much everywhere else.

A bit smaller than I expected but well made. Bought for 5 year old so should be ok. Christmas present so can't comment on play value
