Can you vertically adjust the angle of the spout, from the pic it seems quite horizontal?

The angle of the spout is not adjustable. It is horizontal, but the end is shaped so that the food does actually fall vertically into the pond, as the underside is cut away shorter that the top. You will have to find a flat surface to stand the unit on, and it needs to be close to the water as the spout is not very long. I personally rested a wide plank of wood over the pond and screwed the unit to it, so that it sat actually in the centre of the pond. I would strongly recommend trying this item, as I found it did the job perfectly.

How much is in the smallest portion the feeder gives? I only have small koi and feed them no more than a table spoon full at feeding times.

Hi Melissa, the product has three time settings for feeding, by setting each time setting to the minimum, it will only give out a table spoon full of feed. You can disable two of the feed settings by setting them at the same time as the first feed, thus reducing the feed to just once a day. It is trail and error but hold a dish under the shoot whilst you adjust the timer from 1 second intervals to dispatch the correct amount of food you require. I cant see this being a problem for your requirements.

Is there an easy way to fox proof this feeder?

How is the fox getting at the food? If its bringing the total unit down ensure that the unit is screwed down. if its just the hopper, try a baby harness and a few brackets. Should be able to fasten the harness to get the unit out as you would a baby. Hasten to add, I've not needed this, just a thought. !

will these feeder work with 4.5mm pellet?

I can't say categorically that it will but the feed mechanism is much more robust than the Jebao type using a horizontal screw feeder which is less likely to block. My expectation is that it will cope. We're using it with Kockney Koi Superior Mis which looks like abt 3-4mm The digital clock is much simpler as well
