Tobar 1:18 Premiere Edition 1936 Mercedes Benz 500K Typ Specialroadster

Having collected 1/18 scale car models for many years, I consider that those by 'maisto' offer both the best quality and details available, and this item did not disappoint !Wire wheels have always been difficult to reproduce faithfully although It has been noticable that current methods of production mean that those on this particular model are really impressive, only bettered by specialist mfrs costing many times more.Attention to minute details are excellent, especially items such as the 'chrome' hub caps, instrument panel display, steering wheel boss, 'Mercedes' Emblem on the water filler, and last, but not least, the minute gear position display on the gear lever knob !!The overall Paint finish is worthy of note as are the 'chromed' items and light lenses.Criticisms are few, being mindful of the purchase prices, but if being 'picky', the exhaust pipe bend radius is too sharp where exiting the flexible downpipe, and as for many other models, the foot pedals are chromed, as is the rear exhaust pipe section, which is all 'chromed', when only the actual tail pipe is chrome, on the original car.Still excellent quality and value for money though !!

Having extensively read other reviews it came as no surprise to me that several aspects of the model are extremely delicate to the point of being flimsy. However, this model is NOT A TOY and is certainly not suited for over 3-year olds as suggested by the makers. I would suggest the statement should at least read 'over 10-year olds', and even then with supervision because the model is not truly suited for shoving around on the floor by an over enthusiastic youngster! That delicacy is, however, is a virtual necessity if the the model maker is to to aim to authentically represent the full size object to the reduced scale and in such fine detail.In other respects I was well pleased with the product and the detailed photos in the descriptions ad. quite accurately illustrate that which is to be supplied.The only criticism I would make is that there should be a flyer leaflet in the packaging describing how to unpack and handle a product (not by a 3-year old!!!) which could be so easily be damaged. For example, the dicky-seat lid was held down with a transparent adhesive strip which was so clear it was hard to even spot it was there and clumsy attempts at opening could have so easily damaged that lid.Another criticism is that the stated dimensions could be more details. I purchased a clear display case to hold and protect the model (which was purchased as a gift) only to find the model display platform provided would not fit into the case I had bought. Thus, that meant I had to discard the original base and then modify the display case base to securely accommodate the model car. I should add, however, that I had searched for a larger display case, but they were either ridiculously too large (and correspondingly disproportionately expensive!) or were simply of inappropriate proportions. Of course, that criticism would be invalid if the model were to be placed into a display cabinet, perhaps along with a collection of other similar objects.To summarise, the model is very nice and nicely finished, although the 'leather' upholstery and trimmings look what the are, very 'plasticky'!

Brilliant excellent colour, looks great in my display case

I have been collecting 1:18 scale cars for quite a while and Maisto have made some of the nicer cars in this scale. This Mercedes 500K has to be one of the best available and has lots of detail, with opening doors, bonnet (both sides) and even the hidden rear seat cover opens too. THe smooth cream paintwork and white wall tyred, chromed spoke wheels, reallyl does this model justice and puts it in a class above the Burago models of the same scale. A must have for any collector, or even as a one off display model for your home, which will certainly attract peoples attention when the come to visit.

I love this model, my best one so far. Detailed model in a really good size 1:18. It does have delicate small parts, so be careful when handling it. Its not really a toy after all. Be careful when opening the rear seat hatch, the handle came off in my hand; but nothing superglue couldn't fix. One to definitely add to your collection. Get it! You know you want to!

There's absolutely nothing to dislike about this model with regards to the high standard of finish and detail. Even the spark plug leads are clearly visible.It is a 1/18 scale and over powers the rest of my 1/18 scale cars regarding size as it's 295mm in length front to rear bumper. I've seen this model online new being sold at £50 upwards.Therefore, purchasing the model from the supplier on Amazon UK for under £40 with free delivery was another good reason to purchase this beautiful Mercedes model. I would have no hesitation to recommend this model for any collector or purchasing as a commemorative gift.
