Inateck 2.5'' Hard Drive Enclosure, Tool-free 5Gbps USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Case for 2.5 Inch 7mm/9mm SSD HDD, UASP Supported

I've been using these types of devices for years for data transfer, backup and ultimately just portable storage but this is possibly the most useful version yet. The ability to open and swap drives without a screwdriver is brilliant! So simple to use.In the box you'll find the caddy, USB cable, padding and instruction manual. There's a locking switch to hold the door closed.I used this with a 7,200 rpm drive and SSDs and the speed was excellent over USB 3. I was able to boot from the drive on Mac and it appeared to run almost as fast as the native HDD. Copying files was also snappy and my Windows machine copied a modest 250GB Steam library in about 25 minutes.The only negative is that the plastic chassis doesn't seem to be as durable as other metal cased devices I own, but careful use should see it last a good while.

I bought a cheaper one the day before I ordered this one. That one broke within a minute of me unpacking it. I then saw this one on Amazon and remembered that I have a USB hub from inateck which has never let me down. It came the next day and was a world apart form the cheaper one. Nice solid construction and a big thick cable which allows me to get excellent transfer speeds. I also bought another 500GB SSD drive to replace my laptop hard drive so I slid it into this enclosure, plugged it into a USB3 port and used the free version of Minitool Partition tool to transfer Windows 10 and all my installed programs onto it. It took about 22 minutes. There were absolutely no issues or disconnects so I opened up my laptop, removed the old hard drive and put the new one in it's place. Booted straight up. If this case wasn't up to the job it could have all gone badly wrong. Superb product. In fact I've just ordered another one to house the old hard drive that came out of my laptop so I can use that as storage.

Item arrived quickly and is very easy to open and insert the hard drive. The caddy itself is plastic, yet feels sturdy with a nice length usb cable (approx 1 metre long).Loading the caddy onto the Windows 7 PC is effortless, no drivers to install, just simple plug and play but I was disappointed that the first time using it and copying 100GB of pictures my PC, for the first time in 8-years of ownership, displayed the dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death). This could be a bad hard drive and will try again soon*******EDITED*******On posting the review, initially at 3-star Inateck customer service got in touch to look into the problem. I have to say I've been very impressed with how they have handled my problem and happy to say the issue has been resolved.

Does the job.. Very plastic appearance no thrills. Unlock/ lock button on back. Slide front forward and flip down to open. Easier to follow pics on amazon than instructions. Line up hard drive correct way round and push in. Flip up lid, slide/ push back and lock. Works off USB power no extra power adaptor required. Very easy to remove and replace drives without unscrewing cases and mounts. Useful to recycle old drives.

bought one to make use of a smaller SSD drive I just replaced, works great - have since bought another 2 along with a 1tb ssd to upgrade my ps4 space. I'm able to load red dead redemption 2 from the story/online screen in about 30seconds, which is a big improvement, even with it working through USB 3 - just to give you an idea of the speeds you can achieve. Fairly sure my normal mechanical drive in my ps4 was double that.very easy device to use, you can swap in and out drives with ease. handy lock switch on the back so you don't open it easily.the only critism I would give it would be that I doubt it would be that sturdy if you intend to carry it around in a bag - there is no padding around the drive, and some smaller drives feel fairly loose - there is a pad you can put inside for that though included in the box.Since all I want it for is sitting on a shelf I'm gonna stick with the 5 stars though.

I'm officially an idiot! Having hunted down what I thought was my notebook charger and plugging in, I discovered that I'd stupidly used a 36V electric bike charger by mistake. One fried motherboard and no access to any of the data on the hard drive including just under 10,000 photos dating back to 2006.A bit of research on the internet later, and I found a possible solution - a Hard Drive enclosure. All I needed to do was determine the HDD size and type, then perform open heart surgery on my non-responsive notebook! Thanks to more google searching I found the drive info and some instructions on removing the HDD. Then I ordered the enclosure from the many available.The Inateck enclosure arrived promptly and even going slowly, I had the HDD installed in a couple of minutes. The casing slides to open the end and looking inside, the SATA drive sockets are clearly visible. Just match the orientation of the contacts on the drive, which is really obvious, and push the drive in until it slides into the socket. There was a small foam pad supplied with the enclosure to stick onto the drive to ensure a good fit but I found it really snug without so I didn't use it. The case seems very well made and feels tough enough to be used regularly as a portable drive.I used the supplied USB cable to plug in to my old Dell laptop and booted it up to find that the HDD in the enclosure had been recognised without issue and all the contents of the drive were there. Brilliant.The hardest bit was then configuring sharing in Windows 10 to allow access to the files.My laptop is only USB 2.0, so copying was not lightning fast but I found it to be acceptable. As I now intend using this spare HDD to regularly back up my photos, however, I've also invested in an ExpressCard USB 3.0 adapter for the laptop to speed up the process by up to 5x.I'm really thrilled to have my data back and the price of around a tenner was well worth it. Highly recommended

Nice little box, but found inserting and connecting the HDD to the connector tricky at times, it does work just doesnt feel a hassle free job, for the price it works fine, just doesnt feel a fluid connection

I took the hard drive out of my iMac 27” 2010 machine (easier than I thought it would be- watched a YouTube video) and put it into this “shell”. Literally seconds. Plugged it into my MacBook Pro and it showed up in the desktop and works great! I will buy again!

Buena carcasa, fácil de montar, pero no es compatible con discos SSD de la marca Crucial, compré dos carcasas y no hubo forma de hacer funcionar un BX500 ni un MX500 ambos de 1 Tb, sin embargo con un SSD de otra marca funciona a la perfección dando tasas de transferencia de 450 en USB 3.0.

Makkelijk zonder schroeven een hdd / sdd erin en gaan.Werkt perfect als aanvulling op de laptop voor extra schijf ruimte.Ik heb mijn games op de externe ssd gezet en kan zonder moeite en vertraging mijn games spelen.
