Reliable, easy-to-use wood filler with good value
I bought this Ronseal multi-purpose wood filler for general repair jobs around the house. It’s good quality and easy to work with. It applies smoothly, sets well, and sands down cleanly to a neat finish. For small to medium repairs, it does exactly what you’d expect without any fuss. It also feels good value for money, especially considering the quality and how far a tub goes. Overall, a dependable wood filler that’s easy to recommend.

Ideal product for masochists.
It's really hard to know how to begin a review into a product that is so bad it has left me crying in the corner of my workshop. Suffice it to say that if you like swearing, cleaning up mess and redoing all of your hard work then this is the ideal product for you. It takes a lot of pressure to squeeze this through a gun, I understand why Americans like to use the electric feed guns now because my hand is stuck like a claw. Yet when you have finished squeezing a bead of this into the area to be filled and back off the gun, it will continue to come out under pressure, I've wiped so much of this on my trousers that I now look like I've been chomping on the sugar free gummy bears and had a collosal diarrhoea episode. I've just put a screw in the end and it's STILL managing to come out! Of course there's no screw cap cover... The best part is, it doesn't stick to wood, it comes out of the gaps when you run your finger down the bead to smooth it. But to top it all, it dries quickly, REALLY quickly, so quick in fact it's falling out of the gaps I've filled and has actually dried in the tube as I'm using it! IN THE GOD DAMN TUBE!! And don't get me started on the 'light' colour. Remember those salmon paste sandwiches your mom made for you every day for 6 years straight during your school years? Yep that's the colour of this 'light' filler. So now I've just wasted 3 hours of my life filling gaps and now have to waste God knows how much more time scraping this salmon paste crap out of the gaps while suffering food based horror flash backs and then I've got to start all over again filling the gaps with what I should have used in the first place but felt to lazy to do, mix a bunch of sawdust up with some wood glue. At least that stuff smells nice and it's fun picking it off your fingers. Not like this crap through... Not even baby wipes get this stuff off and you know how that gets paint of your skin and oil off your engine block. God knows what they do to a baby's arse but it ain't getting this off. Does it sound like I'm ranting? I do hope so. To sum up, made by sadists who aren't getting any at home, bought by the gullable and continually used by masochists. Just don't alright?

Contents separated into solid and liquid
Must have been old stock, contents had separated. Hard as rock and so difficult to squeeze from tube until half way down at which point loads of liquid squirted out. The remainder of the solid was nearly as difficult to squeeze out as the initial quantity. Managed to get enough to complete my small job but wouldn't recommend in tube format as no way of remixing without cutting open the tube.

It is a bit runny
Size: It is a bit runny and I had to repeat the process again to fill a small screw hole

Essential part of maintenance toolbox
When choosing fillers I look for a balance of ease of use against the quality of the end result. When working with wood and looking for large areas to fill or exceptionally strong repairs I tend to go for a two part filler. For simple small filling jobs around the house I go for Ronseal Multi-Purpose Wood Filler. The container has a screw top and when opened the filler has a plastic sheet covering the surface which stops it drying out. The filler is premixed and is very easy to apply using a small spatula. Excess filler can be wiped away using a wet cloth and the surface can be smoothed using a wet knife. I do not think multi-purpose filler works well in deep holes (where I use two part) but for all other uses it produces a good finish that is incredibly easy to work with. You will find that the filler in some projects benefit from early post filling sanding etc and others benefit from leaving for a while. General comments: Colour: Natural seems to be the lightest colour Cleaning: Do not leave cleaning tools until the following day. The filler washes off with water immediately after use but requires chipping away if left until the following day. Consistency: The filler can become a bit hard after a while. It can be rejuvenated by adding some water to return it to the consistency it was when purchased.
