JOBY BallHead 1K

Pictures are deceptive. Item is much smaller.
Product is much smaller than it appears in the photos. Advertised to work with mirrorless cameras but my a6300 with the tiny kit lens struggles to maintain balance on it without tipping over. Not sure I’d trust it to not tip and drop my camera. The joints also come apart much easier than I would think they should. Wouldn’t feel safe being out of arms reach of my camera on it.Edit: less than 3 months and the studs in the bottom of two legs broke off. Could not possibly be more dissatisfied with this.

Loose Joint....
Got this as a gift for my friend who is also into the same hobbies as me such as photography and videography, only problem is, is that one of the joints is significantly weaker than the rest. I watched helped him unbox the gift but after taking it out of the box (undamaged), one of the legs started swinging on its own without any resistant. It was as if it was soaked in WD-40 or grease. He knew I spent about $40 on it so he said he loved it but I'm planning on purchasing another one sadly as I don't want his camera gear to get messed up.

Great for Micro 4/3
I have a Panasonic GX-8 mirrorless camera. The first thing I did was to try this with all my heavier lenses. No problems, it could take the weight. I think there are some telephoto micro 4/3 lenses it would struggle to stabilize like the Olympus 100-300mm Pro or the Panasonic 100-400mm. But for those kind of lenses you aren't going to want a table-top tripod anyway, you'll want a real tripod you can stand up and shoot with. For all the mid range zooms and primes on mirrorless this is plenty sturdy.

UPDATE: Doesn't work for very long
Update on 12/10/19:After initially thinking this item was incredible, I've now run into a problem. After using a mount for my iphone I decided I needed a ball head so I could turn my phone in different directions. I, of course, ordered the Joby ball head from amazon. It screwed right onto the Gorillapod with no problems but now about a month of using the set up the ball head will no longer screw into the Gorillapod 3K stand. No matter what I tried it didn't work. Of course the warranty has expired so I have a nice desk ornament, although I can use it no problem with the iPhone adapter which still screws in with no problems. I took off 3 stars for this problem because everything I purchased was made by Joby which is too bad because I really liked this setup and thought they made a good product but the proof is in the pudding and right now this pudding is not as good as it should be. Shame on you Joby for making such an inferior product that fails so easily and quickly. But fool that I am, I'm giving them another chance to make it right and bought the complete kit again because it was on sale on Amazon for $49.99 (plus tax).

Feels Really Solid
I use this tripod head with the Elgato Ring Light because the included ballhead is really terrible. I actually already had a Gorillapod laying around so I was able to just pull the head off that and order another one for later. This ballhead is fantastic. The actual ball and cradle are made out of this really nice metal. The plate that connects to the camera and the piece that it sits in are plastic, bit its not a huge deal though because that feels solid as well. The tripod head has no problem holding my camera in place and it doesn't move around at all. This has one of the best knobs I've ever felt. I know that seems dirty but for real the knob is super smooth and fluid yet it tightens the whole thing up nicely. The inclusion of the level on the camera plate is also a nice touch because it helps me get my camera nice and even when I want to mount it. I have 2 of these now and they both work fantastic for me.

Very heavy.
It's not that much larger than the 3k but about 2 times heavier. For the price, you're better off getting just about any other similarly sized "low profile" tripod head. Sunway Foto sells a compact one for half the cost and feels much more durable.

Joby BallHead 3K - Ideal small lightweight ball-head
An ideal little ball-head for use with a mono-pod to capture stills or rapid video movement. This little ball-head is well made and locks securely and has a slot to move the head/camera to a vertical position. It features a slide in locking base with a built in level that is quite secure making it easy to mount and dismount the camera. The base is marked in 10 degree intervals with a larger line marking each 90 degree mark; there is no degree numbering. It is very light weight and small and won't add much weight when carried around. The only downside that I can see is that the single adjustment knob, while large and easy to grip for locking and unlocking, is not easy to adjust for tension when moving the camera. However, when the tension is released the base has a buttery smooth dampening movement that works very well for object tracking. This has not affected me in that I almost always use the head fully released and lock it only when not in use with the camera or when stored in the vertical slot when I use the mono-pod as a walking stick. This little ball-head will support 3Kg (6.6lbs)

Not impressed
I used this for less than a year and had a leg that kept falling off. The failure point was up by the ball-head. I ended up using a 2 part epoxy and just glued all three legs to the ball-head. I have purchased another one but have little faith that it will not fail as did the first one. I gave it an overall rating of 2 stars for the failure, if not for that it's a great tripod.

Nicht mal 1,7 kg ...
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Absolute Verarsche.

Seemed ok to begin with, but joints became loose after very little use.
Update:After very little use several of the joints became loose enough to loose stability even with well under 1kg load. From other similar reports - some even claiming joints coming apart - I now suspect this is a design fault and have decided to return it while I still can. Shame really, it seemed quite good initially (see my original 4* review below).Original review:I already had a "Gorillapod SLR Zoom" from the days I used a larger camera, but although it was (and still is) very solid holding a lighter camera it is also rather bulky and quite heavy at over 250g which after adding a sensible head takes it to nearly 400g, making it less likely to be carried "just in case". I tried a cheap Chinese work-alike with built in head that weighed in at about 250g total and claimed the same 3kg capacity but it was absolutely useless - a real "wobble pod" of a device even with a sub-1kg load. See: Coolway® 11.5" Inch Pipi Large Travel Tripod for DSLR Camera Super Flexible Joints Quick-release Clip with Lock Ring Level - Black .That brings me to the subject of this review; although rated at 1kg capacity I expected it to be virtually as good as the 3kg SLR Zoom when holding my current camera (Sony A6500) and a typical small lens like the Sigma 30, a total weight of only about 610g. Unfortunately it isn't that good, but neither is it useless. Although a little disappointed (I expected better at this price) it still serves its intended purpose - and arguably it is better than the "fatter" SLR Zoom when wrapping around things, but as a straight table-top tripod not so much. Oh - and although it's not that important I think the colour scheme is so much better than the older model with dark grey instead of light-coloured rubber inserts and feet. The tripod legs weigh about 150g, the head I added about 100g and the QR adapter another 30g or so. This brings the total to about the same as the SLR Zoom legs without a head, so I'm happy with the weight saving. It's worth mentioning that the head I used is an absolute bargain and a perfect match for the tripod - much cheaper and better than the Joby equivalent IMO. See: SIOTI Tripod Mini Ball Head Tripod Mount Head-Metal Ballhead 360° Pan 90° Tilt Tripod Mount with 1/4" Screw for Digital Camera / Compact DSLR / Cell Phone / Monopod / Gopro / Light Stand / Light House .Life is full of compromises and tripods are no exception: solid, compact, light - pick any two. In this case solidity is somewhat sacrificed for size and weight - but not to the point of losing usefulness. I've added a picture of my working setup as described above to show what I was writing about. Lightweight and durable
Bought this to use with my Canon 200D DSLR.It is lightweight and durable. I have quite a small camera backpack at the moment, and this fits in with ease. It adds hardly any weight and in fact I sometimes have to double check it is in the bag. It attaches as you would expect. There is no ballhead as that comes with the 'kit' which is more expensive, so at some point I will be purchasing the ballhead to enable more flexibility, but it is useful without. You can wrap it around pretty much anything to secure your camera in place, or use as a traditional (small/low) tripod on the floor. I take a lot of pictures from the floor so the height is good for me, but if you are looking for a standard tripod this is not the one.One problem I do have is it is quite stiff when trying to flex the legs. I cannot for the life of me get the legs back completely straight, so I just do my best and fix any wonky pictures in post. Hopefully it might loosen up over time but it isn't a major downside compared to the flexibility the gorillapod provides. Overall definitely worth buying.

Hard, firm and versatile
When I first got it I was a little upset I couldn’t fit my DSLR on it however you can unscrew a bit at the top. I’m sure its probably written in the instructions somewhere but I’m a man (so I don’t read Instructions). It’s very durable and holds the weight of my canon 70D with ease. I would highly recommend.

Practical mini tripod
This is a wonderfully flexible, light tripod that you can take anywhere. At first, it feels like all the joints are stuck, but once you move them around, it's more flexible. I like that you can balance it on just about anything, and change the angles of the legs easily. I haven't tried wrapping it around things like tree branches, but it looks like it would be perfect for that. It seems a bit expensive for what it is, however.
