It works but be cautious
Good price for a cabbage shredder, but if I was using it more often I'd probably get one with a handle and a box. It's a little treacherous holding both the shredder and the cabbage with nothing to protect my hand from possible shredding. And you have to hold it vertically to shred, so it is a careful game to use this safely.

Slices Cabbage Fast - Be Careful
This cabbage shredder looks like an antique tool that you might find in your grandma's kitchen. It is a simple design, a wood frame with sharp, metal blades. The problem is it has no rubber feet to keep it from sliding around and it has no handle for you to get a secure grip on it.I was hoping I could set it on top of a large bowl and shred cabbage directly into the bowl. That doesn't work. It just wants to slide around on top of the bowl. Without a handle, it is hard to hold the shredder steady with one hand while the other hand controls the cabbage. What works well is propping the shredder vertically on top of a cutting board and working the cabbage up and down. It cuts the cabbage down quickly into nice, thin, consistent shreds. It is a little messy as bits of cabbage will go flying off. I particularly like that the shredder platform and cutting blades are wide enough that you can cut a full head of cabbage. You don't have to waste time cutting cabbage into smaller pieces to fit the shredder.Cleanup could be easier. Fragments of cabbage get caught in the gap between the first blade and the platform. My sink sprayer doesn't dislodge the fragments, so I have to poke them out with a tip of a knife, a toothpick or something similar. This has to be one of the more dangerous kitchen tools I've seen. There is nothing to protect you from the blades, so it is all on you to be vigilant and careful. One misstep or lapse of judgement and you could slice the tips of your fingers off. The blades are symmetrical with no clear distinction of which side is the cutting edge and which side is not. When cleaning, you really have to look close to make sure you are not swiping your sponge or brush into the cutting edge instead of away from it. I recommend cleaning it with a long handle sponge or brush, so if you make a mistake, you are only shaving a little off your sponge or brush and not your fingers.I should point out, the instructions that came with it said to apply preservation oil to the wood. I happened to have cutting board oil that I used on it.
