Magnetic Mount Is So Much Better Than a Cradle!
This iOttie iTap 3 magnetic mount is an excellent upgrade. I previously used the iOttie Easy One Touch 6 cradle-style mount, and I much prefer the magnetic version. The magnetic design is cleaner, less bulky, and makes placing and removing the phone incredibly easy. No squeezing arms or adjusting a cradle every time. I’ve only used this mount attached to my windshield, and it has been extremely solid and secure. The magnet is strong and holds the phone firmly, even on rough roads. Installation was easy, and once it’s in place, it just works. If you’re deciding between a cradle-style mount and a magnetic one, this is absolutely the better option. I wouldn’t go back to the old style.

Crashed truck, STILL stuck to the dash
got 3 of them for work to go in trucks, lo and behold one of our trucks got into a pretty bad wreck, like, insanely bad (everyones okay) and when we went to recover things out of the truck this thing was STILL MOUNTED TO THE DASH, thats INSANE how good the stick and suction and tackyness is that it didnt fly off the dash. i will be buying 3 more immediantly for backups, these are now my go-to brand, i dont care how much they charge.

Sleek and strong — but locks your vent in place!
The iOttie iTap 3 Magnetic Air Vent Car Mount is an excellent choice if you want a clean, magnetic-only mounting solution that doesn’t require suction cups, windshield mounts, or adhesive dashboard pads. Its strong magnets, compact design, and ball-joint adjustability make it a solid option for everyday use. However, the tradeoff is that your vent’s mobility is largely locked out once installed — so if you frequently adjust your vent direction or like to move it around, that limitation may be frustrating. Also, care must be taken when placing the magnetic ring for optimal alignment. I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars for performance and convenience. For buyers who don’t mind fixing their vent direction, it’s a great mount. If vent flexibility is critical to you, you may want to consider alternatives (e.g. dashboard mounts or mounts that clip without stopping your vent adjustment).

Best Windshield Mount Phone Holder I've Ever Used
I was looking for a reliable and reputable phone holder for a road trip in a rental car. After doing some research, this was one that many folks seemed to recommend. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this phone holder is. I didn't try the magnetic dash mount since it requires sticking the included magnetic base onto the dash (and I didn't want to do that since it was a rental car). However, the windshield mounting worked flawlessly every time. The windshield mount is very sticky/tacky and I felt confident it wouldn't fall off even during very "spirited driving". I was using it to hold an iPhone 16 Pro Max and I have no doubt that the phone bracket and mount could easily handle larger or bulkier phones. I was worried about potentially damaging the windshield or leaving weird marks on the glass while trying to take it off, but removing it is extremely easy and leaves no marks at all! When mounted on the windshield, the holder is secured strongly enough that you can adjust the angle with ease. Another positive is that the winshield mount retains its stickiness even after multiple applications/removals. I've gone on multiple road trips in different cars since getting this phone holder, and it continues to mount to the windshield securely and flawlessly every time. This is the only phone holder I will travel with, and should it break down at some point (I don't expect it to any time soon), I would get another one without hesitation. Really solid product.

Doesn't Hold a Note 8 Securely in Place
The iOttie iTap 2 Magnetic CD Slot Car Mount Holder is a good concept but doesn't work well in practice (at least not for a large, heavy phone such as a Samsung Note 8). The device installs simply and easily in the CD slot, so no issues with that. I installed the on-phone attachment plate exactly per iOttie's instructions, needing to place it nearer the bottom of the back of the phone to allow wireless charging to remain useable. I have a very thin silicone case on the phone, and I chose the installation where the magnetic plate goes directly on the phone between the case and the back of the phone. All good so far, but things went bad quickly from there. The magnetic hold between the phone and the holder seemed strong enough when I placed the phone on the device, but at the first minor turn in the road, the phone twisted off axis and seemed like it might fall off the device. You can forget completely about placing the phone in landscape orientation as with the off-center plate position needed to preserve the wireless charging function of the phone, it doesn't stay in place for even a second, immediately twisting out of position (almost to upside down vertical) from the pull of gravity. Finally, one could only imagine the horror story if the phone were to become a free-flying projectile in the cabin of the car if you hit a large bump in the road or get into even a minor fender-bender, let alone a major accident. A modern smartphone is a heavy object and could do real and serious damage to someone in the car if it got to flying around, which seems a real possibility since nothing holds it on the device but the magnets, which my experience indicates is a tenuous force that holds the phone in place. Long-story short, using the CD slot for a phone holder is the best place for a phone in my car, so I returned the magnetic device and purchased the iOttie Easy One Touch 4 CD Slot Mount phone holder instead, which is the same holder, but uses mechanical, spring-loaded arms to hold the phone in place. Works perfectly and I couldn't be happier, but I suggest staying clear of the magnetic holder. It's a good concept that just doesn't function well in practice! and seems fraught with possible danger in the case where it could get loose and fly around the cabin of the vehicle!

Best car smartphone car mount I ever owned!
Let me first say that I have bought car mounts of different types in the past, but this is the only one that really worked for me. Quite honestly, I love this thing. My car is old enough that I still have a CD player and as a bonus, I have an additional "navigation" CD slot that's separate from my CD player that is for my outdated navigation CDs to use with the car's outdated navigation system. Since the navigation CD slot is not in use and it's perfectly located high up on the dash, this was a good decision just from a "where to locate the smartphone car mount" perspective. I chose to put the metal plate on the outside of my ballistic jacket case. They aren't manufactured anymore, but they were way better than the otterbox (only comparing this to give people an idea of the metal plate placement for this car mount) and perhaps that's why putting the plate on the inside of the phone's case or on the outside of the phone's case (not the ballistic jacket case itself) just didn't create a strong connection to the magnet. Putting the magnetic plate on the outside of the ballistic case has caused absolutely no problems with my handling of my phone during normal use when the phone is off of the car mount. It is a thin metal plate that does not add to the form factor thickness of the case. People who are having trouble getting a strong magnetic connection may consider doing this. One thing of note, I put this on during the hot summer months. About 3 weeks later, the glue failed and the phone dropped off the mount with the metal plate being attached to the magnet on the car mount, instead of remaining glued to the case. Since I was satisfied with the overall function of the magnetic connection to the mount, I simply put superglue on the the metal plate and it has been perfect ever since. I did have the experience to position the magnetic mount such that the phone was perfectly vertical. When you hit those bad potholes (I do try to avoid them for the sake of my car's suspension, but sometimes you simply can't avoid them or they sneak up on you), the phone would dislodge from the mount due to the jolt. The solution is simple and that's to angle the magnetic mount such that the phone is on a little bit of the slant so that the vertical force of the vehicle's jolt on the mount has some horizontal opposing force upwards against the vertical downward jolt. Works perfectly. My phone has incurred absolutely no negative effects as a result of it's proximity to the magnet mount point. For those who are saying the magnet isn't strong enough, I would suggest purchasing a stronger magnet and placing it on the already magnetized mount. Problem solved. I didn't have to do this, but instead of throwing your money away on a perfectly good car mount, simply drop a few cents to remedy your magnetic connection if moving the metal plate to the outside of the case still doesn't work for you (after all, some phones or some phones + their case can be pretty heavy and you may need a little more of a boost, although my Samsung S5 phone with it's ballistc case and a bit of a tilt of the mount is all I needed to establish a sufficiently strong magnetic connection). I'm glad I took the chance on buying one more car mount. This time, it was definitely worth it!

Cheap Phone Mount - Almost perfect
If you want something to hold your phone while you drive without spending much, this works. Easy to install. I deliver mail on a rural route with a lot of unpaved, bumpy roads. The magnet does a surprisingly good job of holding my phone. Drops are infrequent and occur on the roughest parts if I hit a pothole or rock going a little too fast. Cons - the arm that allows you to adjust the angle doesn’t tighten correctly so it continues to move phone’s angle and height while driving. I am not watching videos and typically don’t need GPS so it’s more annoying than anything although I do worry about damage to my phone’s camera from the constant movement on bumpy terrain. 5 stars if this actually held my steady but it doesn’t. I can’t really speak to the mount adhesion as yet since it’s winter and it hasn’t been tested in high temperatures. That being said, I anticipate that the adhesive will eventually degrade and need to be replaced. For the price of the mount, that doesn’t bother me. I plan on replacing it with alien tape or something similar when it fails. (I got the flush mount and put it in a central position below my dashboard near vents.)

Surprisingly strong, clean design and great for the price
I bought the iTap 3 Flush Mount version. I was a bit skeptical at first since there aren't many reviews of this version. But I’m glad I went for it because the product works great. It's small design looks clean on my dashboard and sticks firmly in place. I’m using it with an iPhone with MagSafe and a MagSafe case, and the iOttie holds the phone securely. It’s not super strong, but it’s strong enough that the phone never falls off and easy to remove when you need to grab it. I love that the base can also rotate, so you can adjust the overall angle. I bought this on sale and paid 10 USD. I would definitely recommend it, worth the money.
