Because it is made from spices normally used in meat preparation, the blend evokes associations with familiar flavours in our brains. Vegans sometimes find themselves craving the taste of meat rather than meat itself. The flavour of the meat is largely determined by the spices, which is why this blend is perfect for baking, grilling and other types of preparation of vegan meat substitutes. Garam masala adds warmth to this spice mix, while cumin, garlic and onion provide a meaty touch. It goes very well with smoked tofu, which is already smoky enough to resemble meat. When the right spices are added, it tastes like sausages or grilled steak. It's also exceptional with vegetables - you can sprinkle the spice mix over vegetables before roasting them in the oven, or season larger pieces of vegetables for the barbecue. Funky Tofu spice mix also enhances the flavour of other types of tofu, such as plain tofu or tofu with basil or sundried tomatoes. It is also suitable for tempeh or seitan.
