Great memory game
This is my review of the BrainBolt Genius Fast Light-Up Memory Game. First of all its rather expensive for a piece of plastic which lights up. It is a memory game of which I am certain other well known brands sell similar type games for less. First of all you need three AAA and a small screwdriver. I hate toys for older children/adults having a screw! Next this is not a game you can just play, I intentionally did not read the instructions and thought I would just give it a go. The noise is loud and annoying so I ended up turning that off straight away, which is a bonus. Next I tried a few of the buttons. I managed to get a game playing where it was just a straight forward memory recall of the lights that had been shown. I only managed about three at which point I would always lose, so I wasn't sure I was doing it right. It has a two player mode and other games, but without the instructions I could not get beyond the first game. Once you read what all the buttons do then you can easily change the game and from one to two players. Also please note that the brand appears to be Learning Resources, the company which make various items for schools etc. This is not the case, it is Educational Insights, a different company who also make educational items, so not sure who put those details on Amazon but it is wrong. My last point on this item is that it isn't very ergonomic. It is just a weird shape which doesn't seem to fit in the hands very well.

great family game
Brainbol Genius - EI8436 =================== This is the Genius version from the Brainbolt line. As with the previous versions it's a simple light up game but has up to 21 lights flashing at random, and you repeat the pattern. There are more levels and randomised patterns than their previous brainbolts, and this reminds me of the old simon says light up games from the past. The game has 6 different game play variations which you can select from any of the three buttons on each side. The two green corner lines around each of the three buttons are just for show and not buttons. Unlike some of the other Brainbot models, this does not come with batteries, and annoyingly, you will need a jewelers screwdriver or similar to undo the battery compartment to fit the batteries in. Once set the game is remarkably easy to play. I did the acid test and spent half an hour with this without the manual and it was actually quite easy to pick up. I did have to refer to the manual afterwards since the switch on the back which toggles between off/mute and on does not seem to work - it's either on with sound or off. Perhaps I have a faulty unit, but the mute on the one I tried acts the same way as off. As a family game passing this around, this was quite enjoyable. It was a pity the mute does not work since you may want to switch the noise off when playing solo. Currently selling for £28

A couple years ago, I purchased BrainBolt. It was an instant hit with me (age 75) and the younger children (5-teen) in our family. I bought BrainBolt Boost attracted by its larger, very colorful buttons, the score tracking LCD readout and the new-fangled mental challenges it offers such as a fun follow-the-light game with different speeds for different ages, a fantastic sound matching game that is unique and fresh, and a reboot of the classic game from the original BrainBolt. They added handles to the unit which makes it easier for younger children and geezers like me to hold. The handles are covered in a layer of soft rubber which makes for a very comfortable feel. BrainBolt Boost blows me away with its friendly look and Can’t-Put-Them-Down games. As an inveterate lifetime gamer, I highly recommend BrainBolt Boost.
