Not that I can tell. The tail is fluffy and nice though. It's sewn in toward the back shoulder area to keep it up.

Can the headpiece be removed?

Yes, the headpiece is separate.

How does the acorn open? Could it be used as a candy bag?

I think it was Velcro, but we stuffed ours with stuffing. The acorn would not look that great if you used it for candy.
