The Cytokines of the Immune System: The Role of Cytokines in Disease Related to Immune Response
D**Y
Interesting Compilation
The author took the challenge of addressing both immunology broadly and cytokines in particular. The presentations appears as a well edited set of class noted with text. The level of detail is reasonable but this is not a research oriented text but one for a high level overview. The challenge with cytokines is often what initiates their release and what they are targeted for. For example IL-31 has been a focus for various dermatitis but it also arises in multiple malignancies. The understanding of the end to end "system" is complex and not yet fully detailed. However the pieces known allow for some therapeutics for those cases with intractable prutitus. The list goes on for many of the other many cytokines. Thus this book may be useful for an update for physicians not fully educated in these significant proteins.
