Great Tamper
Perfect tamper. Very easy to use and gets the coffee grounds nice and compact - better than the one that comes with the Breville. It's a bit heavy so be warned.

Good if you know what you’re doing.
This tamper always seems to confuse people but there’s really nothing confusing about it if you look at how it works. It’s supposed to sit on the edge of your basket when tamping and if it doesn’t, you have the wrong size. It’s a little stubborn to press down sometimes but it’s not too bad. Over all good quality… if you know how to use it.

Kinda works - spring feature isn't useful for me.
The spring feature doesn't do anything on my machine. The grounds are too high in the portafilter for the spring component to engage the portafilter. It works well otherwise, the size is accurate and it's heavy duty.

It's not broken! User-error story...
When I first opened it I thought it was broken upon pressing it onto my kitchen counter with no result. After looking at reviews I realized it only presses down when pressed on the edges (like on your portafilter, which is what it was made to do). Upon this realization I chilled out and after using it for a week each day it has been great and does its job!

Very sturdy
I really like how heavy this is and the spring has kept it’s strength for about a year now

I like the sturdiness
Best bang for the buck, simple and easy designed very heavy for the weight which is what you want and very comfortable to use love it 10/10

This is not a sprung tamper, because the spring is in the wrong place.
TL;DR This isn't actually a sprung tamper where the spring is providing the constant pressure. Avoid this and get a different $17 sprung tamper that is actually a sprung TAMPER, not a sprung LEVELING COLLAR.With a properly designed sprung tamper, you are pushing on the handle, which is pushing on the spring, which is pushing on the tamping disc, which is pushing on the puck. This means that you will always be applying the spring's pressure to the puck, no more, no less (unless you're bottoming out the spring to where the handle is pushing directly on the tamping disc). That means you get repeatable, identical pressure from tamp to tamp, isolating a variable.THIS POS has the spring between the handle and the leveling collar, NOT BETWEEN THE HANDLE AND THE TAMPING DISC. The handle is connected directly to the tamping disc. That means that you are pushing DIRECTLY on the coffee puck. YOU are providing the force, which is INCONSISTENT. All the spring does here is make the tamper feel nicer to use, since the leveling collar isn't freely flopping up and down the shaft.I don't know why this is like this. I guess cost savings. "sprung tamper" here is misleading. It's a shame that this tamper is useless, because other than the spring being implemented incorrectly, it feels nice. The handle is a little small, and the tamping disc is a little thin/light, but it feels well made and the handle is comfortable. It would be an awesome value at the current $17 list price.Besides the spring changing, I would like to see the shaft lengthened and the leveling collar being wider, so you can rest the collar on top of your dosing funnel. As it is, you have to pre-compact the coffee enough for the tamper to be able to be inside the basket from the beginning, or else you will make a mess. I have seen no tampers designed as I just described, which is a tremendous shame.

Surprisingly Serviceable
This tamper is surprisingly serviceable. When I was looking at self levelling tampers, most appear cheap and most are overpriced and most turned me off. This tamper turned out to be made of 3 milled aluminium parts and 1 fairly heavy spring. One does not really need a weight gauge for tamping, nothing much happens past 25LB anyway. This is an affordable, well-made, and self-levelling tamper and does its job perfectly.
