Building Amazing Creations: Sean Kenney's Art with LEGO Bricks

This is a beautiful book. If you are looking for builds and instructions, this is not it. But the talent and pictures of the builds are inspiring.

The book is fine and has a lot of creations in it. But i thought it would show how to build the items in the book. But it doesnt. It is just pictures. So it is just an idea book.

We discovered Sean Kenney’s works at our local museum and zoo. Both had these giant lego sculptures by the artist on display. It was a great way to introduce our young grandchildren to art. We were very impressed by how lifelike and colorful the work was. The museum showcased a variety of things; flowers, an Asian dragon, a rubber duck, bicycle, city, etc., while the zoo had just animals. It was such a huge hit for out city that the zoo brought it back again with different animals! We wanted to have the book to remember what we saw.

I bought this book for a Lego-obsessed 8 year old loved watching him pour over Sean's creations. He was in awe and the book inspired him to try to make new creations with his own bricks. I really scored big with this gift! Not only did the birthday boy love it, it was fun to watch different member of the family flip through it to get a behind the scenes look at a Lego artist. Everyone found their personal favorite. Mine's on page 272. :)

Nothing about Lego™ building. No ideas, instructions, plans. Just pic after pic of the author being cool. (He's not.) Sent it back just to ding him and get my 10 bucks back.

Ein tolles Buch zum Blättern. Die kurzen Beschreibungen und Erklärungen zu den einzelnen Bauten laden dazu ein in dem Buch zu Blättern und sich für eigene Bauten (MOCs) inspirieren zu lassen. Weniger ein Buch, dass man tatsächlich von vorne bis hinten liest. Die LEGO Modelle von Sean Kenney sind absolut klasse. Dass er sich auf gefühlt jedem zweiten Bild hat mit ablichten lassen ist für meinen Geschmack etwas zu viel des Guten. Schließlich geht es in dem Buch mehr um seine Werke, als um seine Person. Das fällt schon leider sehr ablenkend ins Auge.Trotzdem ein tolles Buch, welches nicht nur AFOLs gefallen dürfte.

This has some great photos of Lego creations, but I was hoping for something more substantial. There is no discussion on techniques required for large scale builds, nor insight into design considerations. I really wanted to know the thought process behind taking an idea from concept to creation and what physical requirements I would need to think about. I'll give it a 2nd read then likely donate it to my local school's library. It was interesting to flick through, but isn't something I need to keep on my shelf.
