I've been an architect or in school for it for 24 years, and this is the best of the very many scales I've used in that time.- The print is bold and legible. This doesn't seem like it should be a big deal, especially since the print on most scales is good enough to read. But the real question is how quickly you can read it from >24" or so - across a drafting board. I can make out thin, small type just fine, but I can't do it instantly without thinking about it, and I never could despite above average vision.- It feels solid and is heavy enough to weigh down trace or other things that require a bit of heft. This means it won't chip or ding or warp except under really heavy use like fighting ninjas or something. It stays put on the table, and you can tear off a sheet of trace or even butcher paper without the slightest flex, or indeed use it as an impromptu weapon if ninjas from a rival firm invade the studio. Which happens all too often.- The paint stripes aren't there just for looks, kiddies. More fashion-oriented scales (yes, there's such a thing and I've fallen to their temptations before) usually omit this detail. We're designers after all, and those elementary-school colored stripes seem superfluous and even a bit gauche. But they're an excellent feature of practical design in that they tell you instantly which side of the damn triangle is facing up so you hardly even have to consciously look. I now think of scales from 1"- 1/8" as related as much by "green" as I do by their mathematical relationship. The stripes here aren't executed with artisanal precision (and I would pay a little more for that, honestly), but they're bright and bold and fairly consistent, which is good enough for a tool.

The Artellius 12” Triangular Architect Scale Ruler is an awesome product and a great deal. The scale ruler is solidly built and is much heftier than the plastic ones. The scales are easy to read and measures drawings accurately. The scale ruler is also great to use as a straight edge. I would highly recommend getting this triangular scale ruler. The bonus metal ruler is also a great addition (which has both imperial and metric units on each side).

It's an aluminum scale so its heavier than a plastic one. The ruler that comes with it has sharp edges, but can be fixed with a few strokes of emory paper. I'm not sure why that's not done by the manufacturer.

This scale is a little heavier than some of the [cheap] plastic one's that I have used for years, but the trade off is strong, substantial feeling, clear to read with large numbering and very crisp lines. The color coded centers help keep it correctly oriented. I like this scale. The accompanying straight edge is also crisp and clear. Both of these feel like the will endear over the years.

I got this product for the scale. It's really nice and light but I had a problem with prints coming off. If that problem is fixed It's really good product but if I can't read the prints there is no use for the ruler.

I don't normally write reviews but I had to share my thoughts on this scale...I always have used the computer for designing but just recently I had to do some work at home and needed an architect scale, I couldn't find my old scale so I ordered this one and received it in 2 days.It is a solid alloyed metal (I think aluminum) and has a nice weight and feel. The numbering is easy to read too.

The flat ruler isn't the heavy duty stainless steel quality. It's very flexible. It's still usable, just not what I expected. Other than that, this set works great.

I love the slick metal with no bumps on the measurements on the scale. Unlike my old plastic one this one is easy to use and the thin lines give a more accurate measurement. Love it!
