Passed the Fart-y Dog Test, the Skeptical Husband test, the Musty Crawlspaces Test, & More
First, I selected this based on Consumer Lab's ranking of it as runner-up to its #1 Large Space filter. The #1 selection was a ridiculous $600-$800 while this was nice $230 on sale (vs $399 normal). Heck, make this #1.Key features:(1) It has wifi-enabled companion app - but you can control it entirely from the air purifier itself which is good because frankly being able to avoid potentially cyber insecure IOT app for somethign that's largely unnecessary is great.(2) It automatically turns on plasma ionization when you turn it on, but you press the up & down (fan speed) buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to turn it off.(3) If you run it on auto, when the lights are off (photo-sensitive not motion detection sensitive), it'll power down into ultra-low speed fan mode. Easy solution, turn off auto and leave it in low fan speed. Our dog farts like she's eaten deer poop. It's either get rid of the deer or the dog (joking), but we love our girl too much. Then there's the crawlspaces that were never encapsulated that give the house a musty smell while we're waiting to get them encapsulated this summer. And the skeptical husband. Enter this air purifier. It has approximately 5 air changes per hour for a 600-something SF space if I remember correctly. Within 30 minutes of turning it on, husbando and I noticeably detected fresher air throughout the house. Low and medium fan speeds aren't overly loud, and actually pleasantly low-key background noise. Even the high-speed is not particularly abrasive or overstimulating for you sensory-sensitive people. Plus it gives you 3 carbon filters from the start, each of which lasts 3 months if I remember correctly. So, all in all, super happy with this. Some reviews mentioned the LED light wasn't reliable - but someone who shall not be named (cough, the dog) audibly farted right in front of the purifier when she was sleeping (comically whoopee-cushion like which, if we couldn't breath immediately at least this time it was not because it was noxious but because we were laughing so hard) and the LED indicator IMMEDIATELY turned red. Ran for 5 minutes then the indicator went back to blue. Super great at dust removal, and our nostrils have been less congested between weekly house deep cleaning too.

Well made, high air volume, sleek!
I purchased this Winix 9800 air purifier to replace a BlueAir 311 Auto. I was tired of always cleaning that annoying cloth filter on the BlueAir, plus taking that purifier apart to change the filters and reassembling is such a pain. Also, the BlueAir sensor sucks as it only a handful of times in four years ever increased the speed or showed a light other than blue. This Winix air purifier is SUCH a huge upgrade. The product is substantial and very well made. Installing the filters was a breeze and the buttons/app work great. Regarding the PlasmaWave feature, go to the Winix website as the Amazon page doesn’t describe this in detail. The product comes with FOUR replacement charcoal filters (which can't be washed and are supposed to be replaced every three months) plus the HEPA filter lasts a year, so you have what you need out-of-the-box for a full year. The sensors on this Winix air purifier are very sensitive and are constantly ramping up the airflow and turning amber or red. I feel like this is the first air purifier I've bought that actually works!I did a side-by-side comparison of air movement with the BlueAir 311 Auto and the Winix 9800 is about twice as powerful....moves double the amount of air. On the lowest setting there is a slight hum from the unit but it's barely noticeable.Regarding the auto sleep function - the Amazon website doesn't describe this well. The purifier will go into sleep mode ONLY if it's set to Auto and the lights are turned off. If you have the purifier set to a higher speed (meaning not in Auto mode) it will NOT go into sleep mode if you turn the lights off. So for those looking for something that moves a lot of air or creates white noise to sleep, this is for you! Of note is the fact that the blue/amber/red light will not dim unless it's in sleep mode so if the light bothers you while trying to sleep, you'll likely need to turn the purifier away so it's not shining in your eyes.Lastly, before purchasing this I did research for a medical-grade air purifier. IQAir, NuWave and Austin Air were the ones I was considering. In reading online reviews, these products all work similarly, just the aforementioned ones are needlessly expensive (and ugly!). Getting a HEPA filter that can remove contaminants down to .003 microns is what is important and the Winix does this! Of note is the Amazon websites for the Winix products give misleading numbers regarding the actual microns. Look on the Winix website at either the product page or their filter replacement and you'll see that they ALL use high quality HEPA filters that remove particles down to .003 microns.Get this product, it's affordable, elegant, powerful, and actually works!

You’d never know I made smash burgers
Reputable brand name, cheaper than competitors and works like I expected. I use this in my living room/open kitchen. There is no off noice from the plasmawave and is sized to my living room space. I’m not sure it actually helps me with my allergies because I’m also a hit or miss when I actually take antihistamines….I decided to make burgers the other day and turned on the fan as full blast (which isn’t very loud). Had lunch, washed the pans, wiped down the counters and took the dog out for a walk. Coming back in the kitchen it smelled like nothing. Glad I made the purchase.

Great if you don't rely on the sensor
Great unit. I have coways as well and I think this is the best bang for the buck as far as CFM coverage and CADR for the price. It's much more quiet than the 5500-2. The wifi works well and integrates with home assistant. The sensor is useless, however. No more than a gimmick. Only detects VOC's, and not very well at that.

Very quiet!
Pretty quiet, noticeably quieter than the T810. We keep it at speed 3 of 4 and it is about 41db; sounds like a constant, lower pitch ocean wave movement. The particle sensor on top is, which is a little sensitive but is ok. Odor treated charcoal filtration is not great but that’s not why we got this machine.
