Goat Milk Soapmaking

Simple & easy to follow
This is probably the BEST Beginner's book to soaping - and here's why. It sticks to the same ingredients applied 2 different ways (the 2nd is to add water & less milk). I have 3 "beginners" books but the others are overwhelming and confusing with so many recipe options. The back of this book does offer some alternative recipes with different oils to use once you have the hang of things & feel like branching out, plus every recipe you can adjusted by using your "base" recipe & just changing fragrances &/or additives.Aside from the simple recipe, this offers a great step-by- step process and explanation in terms that were easy to follow with pictures that made it all make sense. My first batch set up nicely with no cracking and I skipped gelphase as many milk soap recipes suggest doing. I've had this book for just a little over a month and I've already made 20 flawless batches of soap.Side note: Her Lavendar Essential Oil amount of 30g is a for a very light scent. I use aproximately 5% of oil weight for my fragrance or essential oil in my soaps per experienced soaper's recommendation - so that's apx 45 grams with these recipes. Oils have an IFRA Maximum usage amount for safety and you'll want to run your fragrance/essential oil through a fragrance calculator or check with IFRA usage to make sure you're using a safe amount.

Invaluable Resource
I love this book. The author said in the intro to first read it cover to cover so I did. I have been making HP soap for awhile now but to cut down on clean up, I wanted to try to switch to CP & I wanted to try making Goat Milk Soap as well. This book has taught me so much more than those 2 things. I particularly love, love, LOVE the oil substitution chart because there's been so many recipes out there that I have all the oils on hand but the one I need. The chart alone is an invaluable resource. I will 2nd some of the other reviewers that the cover is very flimsy. I really wish it were more sturdy or hardcover because as many times as I'm going to reference this awesome book, it's going to get beat up quickly. 5 stars for written material.

Thank you Amanda. Beautiful book. Takes you right to the point to soap making in a very simple way. Yes, you can make soap right after you read this little book. If you want more complicated things, you must search for more complicated books. But for a beginner, is just what you need.Lolita.

Simple, efficace ...
