Required for use as an aid when defrosting freezer to keep contents cold as its not always possible to do the job when completely empty. We have a few of these already but too small for the job as are mainly for lunch boxes. These XL 750 are huge packs and means you don't need as many to kerp any remaining food frozen or chilled. Not noticed any leakage

These are great, just what I was looking for big & chunky

These are good sized ice blocks and they've held up well so far. We got them during the heart of the heat wave and wrapped them in tea towels to use them like reverse hot water bottles. absolute life saver. They also work well in a cool box. When I first froze them I was a bit concerned when they bulged as much as they did (see photo), but they've held up so far. Also, the sloshing sound begs the question of whether they are actually "gel". Maybe it's just a poor choice of word. They do stay cool for a reasonable length of time, but that may be a matter of size more than anything else. The price (£8.99 at the time of this review) was understandable in a heat wave when there was loads of competition, but it seems a bit high in mid-October. I'll be generous and give them 4 stars.

I bought these ice blocks because I have had gel ice blocks in the past that stayed cold much longer than the ones filled with liquid. I was immediately suspicious of the "gel" in these when I heard them sloshing through the box. The blocks are perfectly decent ice blocks - larger than most and seem to be good quality, hence the 3 stars. However, they do NOT stay frozen for longer than any other liquid-type block. Of course they stay cold longer than the thin ice board type simply becuase of their size, but I've found if I freeze a standard 500ml bottle of water it will defrost in exactly the same length of time as this block. So much for the special coolant!
