Actually spicy!
I enjoy the Sichuan flavor to this sauce, although it's less crunchy bits/garlic and more oil than similar brands. I typically eat medium spicy foods and tried both the regular spicy of this brand (I would rate not spicy enough) and the Xtra spicy - the Xtra spicy is definitely spicy enough. I would rate it the perfect spice level as I don't feel compelled to add too much of it, but it brings that Sichuan flavor and good heat. Better value if on sale (it's a pretty small jar)

Like nothing I've had before
I got the X-Tra Spicy Chili Crisp because it was EBT eligible and the regular Sichuan Chili Crisp was not at the time I ordered. I was hoping it wasn't too spicy because while I do like spicy food, I know a lot of stuff that's labeled as extra spicy tends to be overly hot with no flavor, and I don't generally like stuff that's hot just to be hot or for bragging rights. I also noticed some people's reviews showing their deliveries had leaked and I was concerned about that. Mine did not, and there was definitely a "pop" when I opened my jar. This was my first time buying any kind of chili crisp product. I'd seen lots of hype and kudos about the Sichuan Chili Crisp and decided I wanted to give it a try. I've had house chili oils at ramen restaurants and I've had other types of chili oil hot sauces (Tomasa Hot Sauce, I highly recommend it!). I opened the jar and was met with a very pungent smell. I did read that it had preserved black beans and mushroom powder in it and you can definitely tell. I made sure to fully stir up the jar. I decided to taste the oil from the spoon just to gauge the heat and see if it was going to hot for my liking and overpower any flavor it might have. I definitely tasted the flavor (with the concentration of the smell it would be hard not to) but the oil did come off pretty hot and hit me a bit in the back of the throat. I decided to try this on a Birria and Cheese pupusa from Costco. I figured the heat would be good with this and I know what the flavors are to have a good base line. What sorcery is this chili crisp? The heat wasn't so intense anymore. But the flavors that were there suddenly were more intense and enhanced the flavor of the pupusa so much more than any of the other hot sauces I've had them with. I'm honestly shocked that the heat level seemed diminished. It was noticeable before. Now I don't notice it. Maybe because I had already tasted it, I was already used to it. But the flavors it added were amazing and I'm still tasting the combination 10 minutes later. I'm excited to try this on other foods like pizza. I have some dumplings in the freezer too I'd like to try it with. Eggs are a no brainer. I still want to try the original Sichuan Chili Crisp, but the X-Tra Spicy was delicious and honestly surprised me in how it transformed once I added it to food. I'd definitely buy it again.

Very tasty chili oil! Definitely recommended.
For some reason I thought this was just the dry chili crisp, without the oil. I made that mistake because it's plainly written "in oil" in the description. I'm glad I was wrong because this stuff is great! It's the extra spicy version, so it has a nice little kick, but the flavor is on point. It's really tasty. Seriously, add this to a vegetable that you're not a big fan of (Brussel sprouts, green beans, etc.), it might change your mind. Obviously, add it to everything you do like as well though, ha. It's good stuff! I'm very happy to be wrong and I will definitely be buying this again.

Very tasty but it's not extra spicy
Only complaint is that one jar = 3 meals for me. My spouse hates spice so I have to add mine into stir fry after cooking, separately, which this works perfect for - much better than using dry powder and flakes. But it's not spicy and I wish it was because I don't like using a bunch of rapeseed oil just to get a little heat. Please make a version which is 3x this spice level, so one jar = 9 or 10 servings.

Delicious, but extra spicy?
For a while now my go to chili oil has been the Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow, but I’ve always wished it had a little more kick. I tried another called Chi Chi Fire, and it kicked a little too hard for my taste. I love spicy food, but only up to a point, beyond which I can’t enjoy my meal. I decided to give this a try hoping it would be in that Goldilocks hot zone. It’s delicious, and I didn’t think it was lacking in chili crisp solids as some other reviewers have said, but extra spicy? I personally did not find it to be any hotter than the Lee Kum Kee. Maybe a little bit higher quality ingredients, more complex flavor, more umami, but not enough to justify the extra cost imo. The LKK is $4.50 for 7.2oz. This one is $10 for 6oz. You will certainly not be disappointed in the flavor, and it may be plenty hot for some, but if you are a seasoned chili oil fanboy or girl I don’t think you will find it Xtra spicy. My search for the perfect chili oil continues. UPDATE: after buying another jar and putting it head to head against the Lee Kum Kee I’ve decided to upgrade to a full five stars. It is still not quite as “extra spicy” as I would like, but definitely spicier and tastier than the LKK. Hot enough for a good kick, but mild enough to allow you to really heap it in your food. Also, I was mistaken about the price of LKK, which is in fact comparable to this one. About $10 for 7.2oz of the LKK, same price for 6oz of the Fly By Jing. It is the LKK Chiu Chow Chili Crisp that is $4.50 per jar, and I have not tried that one… yet. I am reading on Reddit that there is a company called Blank Slate Kitchen that makes an excellent Sichuan chili oil, and I’m already placing an order.

Not "Extra Spicy" and NO numbing effect
It has a good flavor - a roasted chilli flavor. However, for being "Extra Spicy," it's really not that spicy. I had to put a lot to get any spicy taste. Also, I searched for a szechuan chilli oil because I wanted the tongue numbing effect but I'm sad to say this didn't have any of that. I'm going to keep this because I'm too lazy to return but I won't be buying again.

Anything Fly by Jing is excellent!
Our regular chili crisp was out of stock so we tried the xtra spicy sichaun. A terrific addition to home made ramen, pho, and noodle dinners. Love the garlic and shallots. Expensive, but worth it!
