The Old Guard Book One: Opening Fire

So Darned Good It's Scary!
An extremely clever take on something like immortality. Well plotted, good art, and great dialogue. While the reader eventually wonders just how they rebuild their bodies so quickly, what their caloric intake has to be, and how much fluid they have to ingest, there is also the issue of how quick and strong they are. These questions are never answered. There is also the point of onset. Are they this way from birth and simply don't know until they are badly injured, or what? In any event, Greg Rucka always does his homework, so some of these questions will be answered at some point in the future. Probably. Maybe. My own writing features characters who have much the same skills, and it is tough to address all the possibilities. I used an STD, which is arguably easier. In any event, this is seriously good stuff and it deserves a maximum following. The movie looks terrific, with the characters looking as they should, and the author doing the screenplay. Wahoo!

Greatly Paced, Fun Read!
I was interested in the Netflix movie but found out it was based on comics. Decided to pick it up before watching the film, so glad I did. This story is greatly paced. Never felt lost or bored with long exposition. Felt natural and all the characters were like-able and human. Beautiful soft moments in between the action scenes create a balance that sometimes falter other comics. Can not wait for the second book. Now to watch the Netflix adaption and see if they do it justice!

Immortality but with a twist!
'I think everything is broken.''Everything is.'So I only came to know about this comic series when Netflix tweeted about its adaptation coming later this year. I mean, Charlize Theron as a leader of an immortal badass mercenary group (directed by a female director) and I knew this was gonna be my first comic of 2020.Now that I've read, I really hope the adaptation rocks. It has to what with Andy being the oldest living immortal (they should have a proper word since they do keep dying but just come back alive and then eventually, do die someday) and I just loved her immediately. There is a gay couple, Joe and Nicky, Booker who's kinds lost and Nile AKA ANOTHER FAVE.Plot-wise, it's interesting and made sense to me that something like this would happen to them eventually. The concept of immortality gets a new spin in this and so the best was easily seeing the team's backstories intertwining with the historical aspects of their lives and as they're from all over the world (some from regions that aren't even on the map) and different ages, the diversity is there. I immediately loved Andy and Nile's dynamic like yesss. Also, when Andy basically kills Nile and then herself just to get Nile up to speed on what's up LOL (and of course, the falling scene ahdlsjkdf). The art does leave something to be desired, though. Some of the action panels are hard to follow and some of the male characters kinda look the same (unlike Joe whose bigass nose is just LOL) but the color palette is amazing. Also, there's a lot of violence from eyes getting popped out of sockets regularly and heads getting half blown off.In all, this is a solid comic and I can't wait for the adaptation to hopefully kick ass. I'm also glad there's gonna be another volume releasing this year, too. MORE ANDY AND NILE, ALWAYS.

PERFECTION
Probably one of the most interesting storylines in a graphic novel/ comic that I've read. I'm constantly searching for harass women to read about and this was PERFECTION. I read this because of the film that just dropped on Netflix but I'm about to read the entire series.

Muy buena novela gráfica
Una muy buena novela gráfica, laa ilustraciones no son mis favoritas pero van bien con la historia y buena trama, lo único que no me gustó es que la nueva impresión trae el logo de Netflix.

Wow. Might be one of my new favorite comics.
I am such a sucker for anything related to time and death. This one happens to have both in spades. I know the arrival of the Netflix movie is going to cause people to look into this book: do it! The art isn't my favorite but I love the characters and story.

Bad ass
The writers of original content are always appreciated. I can only hope I can read watch something original and not this regurgitation we have constantly been feed from Hollywood. I think we don't reward people for that anymore and we should do we can get more stuff like this.

I truly enjoyed
I am new to this genre of literature. Well actually I tried when I was younger but got more into non-fiction...so I guess I'm kinda back to this genre. I saw the movie before reading the book. I'm excited to start the second d one. Very well drawn and extremely interesting story as well. I feel fortunate! Thx and to the team this is excellent!

Ganz ok
