Great book!
Book arrived promptly and in pristine condition. I purchased this as a gift and already have my own copy. It's a great read for anyone, even if they do not practice Bikram yoga. The first half of the book is an autobiography of this incredible man and teacher. Fascinating life and well-written with honesty and humor with Bikram's personality shining through. The second half not only illustrates the proper position for the postures in photos but written instruction as well. Additionally,Bikram explains how the body is affected, both appearance-wise, internally and spiritually. This type of yoga, as all other forms, is a moving meditation. Highly recommended for anyone who is a practitioner or just someone who wants to inform themselves about Bikram. Will dispel any concerns re this particular form of yoga generated by The New York Times article. In fact, you will come away informed and convinced, as am I that this particular form of yoga is the real deal. From former Hatha Yoga practitioner and present Bikram Yoga practitioner.

Just skip the gym altogether...this is all you need!
I have been taking Bikram yoga for a few years now and I finally read Mr. Choudhury's book. I wanted a better understanding of the postures, breathing, and what this yoga means in my life outside the classroom. Bikram explains everything about his yoga in a no nonsense honesty that I appreciate. I would recommend first taking a class...read his book...and then keep coming to class as you continue reading. This yoga and this book will change your life. And yes, I really did cancel my gym membership. This yoga gave me all over, and instant, results both in my mind and body.

The Student
Great book that anyone interested in making thier life and body better should read. The author talks from real experience and was taught & mentored by the best of the known Yogis of recent time. You will learn about the different types and practices of yoga and why some may not be as good at producing the results that you want to attain. No pain no gain is a sort of mantra that permeates through out the book. Meaning that if you don't do it the right way (or hard way) then don't expect to get the very best results from the time you spend doing it. There is a right way and a wrong way and the right way is usually the hard way Bikram says. Curiously enough however, doing it the right way always turns out to be the easiest way in the end, it seems. Self Realization is a big topic in this book and indeed is the purpose of practising Yoga. According to Bikram his style of yoga is the best way to attain this most worthy goal.:-)Up Date: 4/2018 Unfortunately Bikram has apparently succumbed to the temptations that come with fame and fortune along with too much money, along with the loss of the simple values he was taught by his own mentors in India. This has damaged his once admirable reputation and the Bikram style of yoga. See Bryant Gimbal’s interview and others for more info.

Concise/ no nonsense intro to yoga
I bought this book for my husband never intending to read or use it myself. I am runner and do ocassionally do yoga to relieve the pain and reduce muscle stiffness, since stretching alone does not do it for me. But from the moment I read the book I was hooked. The asanas are pretty hard to do, but the instructions are so precise and the tips so useful that even a newbie like me can try them. It is a different story that my posture is a far cry from the perfect postures depicted in the book, but that is the point: to get people like me off the couch and trying Yoga for the first time. I must say that as hard as the postures are to do, the relief I can after I am done in beyond description. I do feel that my stomach is just a tiny bit flatter, my pants a tiny bit loose the day after I do Yoga. After reading the book, my husband felt inspired to try the Bikram yoga class and he is hooked. All in all a good buy!

Best yoga book
I love this book. I think it is much better than Bikram's previous book. The section on how to do the poses is not cluttered with chit-chat, but gets straight to the heart of the issue. EAch pose has a paragraph called "Bikram's tips" that really have helped me to do the poses better.I found the sections about Bikram's history and how he became a yoga teacher interesting and inspiring. Bikram makes a lot of claims about the benefits of his yoga and how it is better for you than other styles of yoga, and at first I was very skeptical. I thought this was just marketing. But after practicing for two years and going to a Bikram yoga studio for a while, I have found that most of his claims turn out to be true. Doing his sequence faithfully and regularly, every day, really does heal the body AND the mind. Bikram yoga has healed several injuries that I had, and it makes living in a stressful environment less crazy-making.Practicing in a hot room is great, if you can. But I find the sequence to be beneficial even if you can't get to a hot yoga studio or heat your own home up to 100 degrees. I just wear a fleece jacket if it is cool and go slowly.

Good way to get hurt if you follow this guy without a teacher
Do like his attitude about American exercise. Not good for much either. Better to just enjoy life and slow down. There is no hurry on the journey. I have all the strength I need. No exercise needed.

I love it
I began practicing Bikram several years ago. Twice, sometimes three times weekly - it is wonderful. Indescribable, actually, given everything that I have gained from it. Only now have I read the book, and it is amazing! Several years after I thought I knew the practice, I am now looking at it AND practicing it differently than before. The book is another perspective entirely!! Extremely motivational, too! Now it's three, sometimes four times weekly. I would go every day if I could!

Fun and informative and fab!
Already had Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class and found it to be the best yoga book ever [IMHO]. I think this one equally good and fills in any missing pieces. Actually made me want to rush to my yoga mat. Benefits benefits benefits!Fabulously informative. It's wonderful to know the benefits of each asana without having to wade through mountains of dull and dry text. I've always practically ignored savasana, and never will again! The background info; history of , science of etc is also very readable. I hadn't realised how much, in certain cases, yoga has been changed for westerners, and only relatively recently.Osho said to never trust a guru without a sense of humour. Bikram has fab sense of humour, passion for yoga, the knowledge and the descriptive skill to make this read like a novel...Even the parts of the book that describe how to do each asana are enjoyable and interesting.I've been meditating for years and love it and wouldn't dream of missing a day. However, I can often get lazy about yoga asanas and pranayama. This book has changed all that...It's impossible [for me anyway!] to absorb Bikrams' passion and knowledge of the marvelous benefits of the asanas etc and not be super keen to do them.As with any book I've read didn't agree with every single bit, that would be a bit sheep like! But I gained enough valuable knowledge and was entertained enough for this book to be worth the money many times over!Get it, and if you don't agree with me you can always put it straight onto Amazon marketplace!
