I always store hot food in glass containers, including freezing indivual portions in one cup glass containers. I would only put hot food in these bags once the food has cooled down, although I use them for freezing bread, etc., inside a freezer bag to avoid any contact with the plastic bags.

Q: What is used in the seal? Is the glue strip made of plastic or petroleum products?

Whatever it's made of, it sticks very good.

Q: would these be good for possible leaking toiletries?

No because they are not airtight and the paper can get soaked and start to tear.
