Not What They Once Were
I want to start off by saying that up until about a year ago, I could probably eat a case of these in a sitting if someone didn't pull me away. They were that good! I'm not quite sure what happened, but after I exhausted my current supply (I would buy these 10-20 cases at a time), I placed an order for more and they arrived a few days later. I opened the can and to my dismay, the product inside looked nothing like it had before. The steaks were very white in appearance, drowning in water/oil and were completely lacking in green chilies. The taste wasn't much better. The fish was very mushy and extremely fishy tasting; a complete 180 to the delightfully firm and salty morsels I had grown accustom to. I tossed the rest of the can in the trash and hoped for the best on the next can. Next can, same result. I was devastated. I figured this had to be a supplier issue, so I hunted these down at a somewhat local grocery store (they are hard to find!) and bought a few cans. Again, the same poor results. I let a few months pass, hoping it was just a bad month or something at the factory and ordered again from Amazon. Same deal. I'm not certain why Beach Cliff would change the way they package and sell this product as they had a superstar on their hands, but without a doubt they did; and not for the better. Sadly I will now need to find a new snack, as these are not what they once were. I gave 3 stars simply because the memory of the "old version" is still strong in my mind.

Bland Fish Flavor, not really Spicey
Less flavor than other brands, soybean oil is not the healthiest butfortunately is not too oily. The jalapeños should have a higher heat rating than they are. An acceptable choice if you are willing to add some flavor/spiciness. I Recommend as a bland fish flavor.

Makes a nice weekly meal
Although sardines are simply small herrings, I feel these canned herrings taste better than cans of sardines. I wouldn’t want to eat them every day, but eating a can of these herrings with crackers once every week or so makes a good meal.

Not the fanciest, but good value option
We always had these fishsteaks or the sardine version made by beech cliff with the green chilies around the house when I was a kid. Always served with saltine crackers. lol For the price per can, seems hard to beat, since they're not as common in local grocery stores anymore. Will buy again. I liked them as a kid, and I like them as an adult.

Good value
These are the only kind of can sardines that I really like. It is an acquired taste. They’re hard to get at the grocery stores & big box. I get them for the health benefits on my health program. Several cans were dented on my second shipment, but none were compromised.

Good
They weren't as tasty as the ones I usually get them from.Still a great product.

Delicious!
These are great, but four stars for using soybean oil instead of olive oil.

Makes a GREAT fish sandwitch, but Don,t eat the pepers if you have any sign of digestive problems
Bread, ketchup, fish stakes, ketchup, bread ; nuk for 40 sec and voila great fish sandwich! But I can not handle the peppers, the fish has plenty of pepper flavor without committing digestive suicide.
