Berbiguier Eighteen Exercises or Etudes for Flute
L**M
Hello Berbiguier, my old friend...
I’ve not had a bad experience with Schirmer-edited collections, and this is no different. The copy is clear, readable, not too small/is scaled properly to the page. I’m getting back into a flute routine after lapsing due to illness while in college and after. The material is challenging—there’s a good variety of patterns & skills that are worked in these etudes—and I keep reminding myself, I would’ve started slow 10 years ago too. In fact, I’m pretty sure I bought this for flute studio in college, because opening to that first page gave me butterflies and heartburn simultaneously. Even if I have a copy in my boxes of undergrad books at my mom’s house, it’s cheaper to get a new one (very reasonably priced on Amazon!) than drive 350 miles and deal with the chaos.

Nice book; challenging music
No complaints about the quality of the product. The description should state that the etudes in the book are at an intermediate to advanced level, however. These are too hard for my daughter who has been playing for three years (in school and in private lessons). I am sure she will grow into them, but we will have to wait a couple of years or so.

GREAT FOR PRACTICE!
I struggled through the 1st etude. I heard professional flautists play this etude with lightning speed, and I thought "oh, no! I'll never be able to do that!" But after a few weeks of practice and stick-to-it-iveness, I'm starting to catch up! What a workout for my small fingers!

Clear -- no smudges -- easy to read. Crisp pages.
Good price too.

Good classic quality
Good classic Schirmer quality. Heavy cardstock cover (non-laminated), staple binding, heavy music paper, slender enough to lay flat. Edition is clean and large printed, and editorializing seems minimal (good!). Some pages in my copy were not printed at 100% darkness. They are noticeably grayer, as if the printer was starting to run low. But every note is clear.

Essential Etudes
This book is great for intermediate to professional flutists.

Ability to play the music
It was to hard for me. I'm an intermediate player. It would be much better to include pictures if the actual music so you can judge it more effectively.

replacement of lost book
i bought this as a replacement for the book i lost from high school. it's great. etudes cover every major and minor key signature, syncopation, accidentals, trilling, and double tonguing. some are geared toward developing speed while others for developing melodic lines, dynamics. the pieces are fun for practice and i used one of the pieces for a college audition which earned me a partial scholarship. a staple and must have for advanced-beginner and intermediate flutists.
