Avatar: The High Ground Volume 2

A huge improvement over Volume 1.
Now THIS is more like it.I was pretty lukewarm on the first volume of "The High Ground," mostly seeing it as a retread of story that we already saw in the opening moments of “The Way of Water.” The good news? Volume 2 is pretty much entirely all new material. The even better news? Said new material is actually a.) super entertaining on its own terms, but also b.) feels distinctly vital to the broader “Avatar” story, serving to fill in blanks between the events of the first and second films in a way that doesn’t feel shoehorned, but rather, genuinely important and interconnected, as if it was ALWAYS a part of James Cameron’s broader story for the franchise (which, to be fair, it kind of was: the entire “The High Ground” trilogy is an adaptation of an un-filmed script that Cameron wrote – hence why so much of this feels like a direct prequel to TWOW.).So yeah: I dug this a lot, and if you’re an “Avatar” fan, this is pretty much the definition of a must-read. Bring on Volume 3.

Could be clearer
I want anything related to Avatar, especially where I can get more story with the Sully’s. My issue with this comic and The High Ground series is the art styles. I say styleS because the second volume is done by three different artists, each taking a third. While some are clearer than others, there are times Jake or Kiri or any of the characters will look so radically different (even within one artist’s section) that you can’t tell it’s them. The pictures I added are all of Jake and all within the same artist’s section. These are all from the same time during the story and Jake looks entirely different each time, even with different hairstyle. This, along with some unclear writing, leads this to be a slightly confusing read.

Wow! I’m loving this!
I can’t praise this series enough. There’s action and adventure galore. The Na’vi go where I never thought they’d venture before. Jake and his team whoop some major butt. And the action keeps me sitting on the edge of my seat the entire way through, making me wonder how this will all play out and who will live or die.As a bridge between the first Avatar and The Way of Water, this series rocks. I know Mr. Cameron set the bar high for his movie sequel, but this in between adventure is a high octane thriller on par with both movies. I can’t wait to see how this will play out.

Super interesting
It's super interesting to read knowing that this was the original idea for the 2nd movie. As a story in itself and a prequel to Avatar The Way of Water, it's ok, not amazing, but pretty cool.
